Minnesota state Senator Jullianne Ortman thinks this is OK because the Senator might drop her cell phone and need to search for it on the floor at 40 mph.
Some conveniences are more important than another's life.

I didn't see that.

The acquittal on the more serious charges caused outrage, and relatives of the deceased echoed that Tuesday, telling the judge that Mertz was getting off too easily.

It appears that the family would have liked the felony charges to stick, but in the face of only a misdemeanor conviction, they suggested the ultimate sentence. The article wandered around a bit; are there no good editors left?

The article says the victims were in a car, not cyclists.

Also, it doesn't mention anything about the State Senator.
