I am wanting to take my IP more seriously this year with our National Masters on at the end of February and on top of more specific training I am now looking for a front disc.
I currently use my road TT wheel (Hed Stinger 90) with a bolt on skewer, but it is rolling on a Vittoria Evo CX road tire. A front disc wheel with track specific tire should be faster.
Ideally the front disc needs to be under ~US$950, as if over AU$1000 I need to add 10% GST (Goods and Service Tax) shipping it to me here in Australia. Personally don't want to spend over that either for a wheel that I will only be using 3-4 times a year.
From the UK online shops when specials are on, both the FFWD and Corima CN discs come just under that magic figure.
I have tried to get in touch with Falcon Sports now a couple of times about the Accel and Triallist wheels but still haven't had a reply. Nor do I know the price for these but thought it worth a try. Another option floating about are Fluidisk's from Russia, but best bet for these appears to be hanging around the door at the end of World track champs and buy off the Russian teams as they are packing to head home.
Having also converted a Zipp Predator to use as my rear track disc, I am not adverse to converting another disc for the purpose. I have a Zipp 950 which till now has been my road TT disc, so I could in a pinch convert the 950 to be run on the front. Even with the Zipp double sided hub of the era, it will just fit within the forks. I'm not happy at the bulk of the hub given it is on the front, expecting it may impact aerodynamics countering the benefits of the disc itself?
I have been checking Ebay AU, US and UK almost daily but so far had had no luck as front discs are few and far between. Closest I got was to a used Zipp 900 but got outbid... :notamused:
Any suggestions or other options greatly appreciated!
