Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - aerospoke question

Hey guys, I just picked up a aerospoke from a friend, and I when I got home I realized its slightly off trued. Not sure what I should do? Can I still use it? the bearings are still smooth and spins nicely. But I noticed at the brake area, there's a slight uneveness when you spin it . Can this be trued? btw its the 5spoke one, the famous one for track.

Have you tried to contact Aerospoke?

Also, it's not a great race or training wheel. Maybe you can get your money back from your friend?

A lot of Aerospokes have a slight "off-true" to them and even more-so if they were used on the street as there is no real way to tention the "spokes."

I would either get your money back from your friend, or see if Aerospoke can replace this for you as Carleton has mentioned.

I've just recently heard of cooking it in an oven for a bit, then bending/pushing it true. Sounds dumb to me, but I don't have an aerospoke D:

I have also heard the oven routine, think it was 150 degrees F for 20 minutes? Don't quote me on that.

aerospoke will ship their wheels with up to 0.020" out of true and/or round.

I have and love a matching set of aerospokes. Best advice you'll get, you said "slightly out of true" I say, Run it and enjoy.

Ok, I'm asking the question:

Why does everyone rip on aerospokes? I've thought about getting one, just because it looks like something that could handle the beating of city streets without getting too badly damaged. Since I've been on the receiving end of improper spoke maintenance (see also: MS Paint thread), I would think that aerospokes would make me a little less concerned about my spoke tension every time I hit a bump.

But every time you hit a bump and ride crappy streets, eventually that wheel will go untrue and that cannot be fixed. Nothing is better and stronger than a spoked wheel. I saw your post about your wheel mishap, if you have brought it to a wheel builder and have everything properly tensioned in the first place you wouldn't have to worry about catastrophic failure

It is my understanding that they don't offer that great of a strength advantage, and, as above stated, they cannot be trued. They are not aero, and instead are just very heavy (and very ugly).

Some people will tell me not to knock something until I've tried it. Well, I would if it wasn't such an expensive experiment.
