We just made the first of what we hope are many payments to this fund since agreeing to provide $1 for every bag sold. We're hoping to make it 3-5$ per at the new year, but we have to wait and see because we are poor.

Messengers are a major component of alternative transportation as industry all over the world. Numbering over 12,000 in North America alone the majority of these workers are contractors with little to no support structure or insurance coverage if they should become injured on the job. In most cases there is no Workers Compensation coverage. The BMEF is an established non-profit, tax-deductible fund that assists these workers with their expenses while recovering so that they can get back on the job helping to reduce harmful vehicle emissions in large cities. Messengers do make an incredible contribution to this effort! For instance the City of Toronto calculates that non-motorized delivery serving the downtown area accounts for 1.2 million deliveries a year!! That means 2500 fewer car or trucks enter the area EACH DAY! In Toronto there are 400-500 bicycle messengers, imagine the difference they make in a city like New York where there are over 2000 bicycle messengers!
