Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - Cleveland Velodrome - coming closer to reality

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I thought this project was dead, but it seems to still be alive! The cyclocross season wrapup party was held next door to the proposed velodrome site, and sponsored in part by Fast Track. I had been planning to go and hear what the plans were, but couldn't stay around for the party to hear about it.
Then I saw the blurb on the news about it this week; apparently they hope to get an outdoor 166m track in this year sometime.

After racing track at Sandy Eggo for a bunch of years, I went up to Encino. I thought *that* was short. 166m seems like it'd be like flushing skittles.

Never been on, or even seen a velodrome in person, but I admit I get a bit of a mental picture of one of those 'sphere of death' things with the dude on an mx trials bike spinning in circles.
I'm just excited that it's moving forward. I'd love to give track racing a try, but with my schedule I don't have the time to drive to Detroit or Trexlertown on a regular basis. This is ~15 minutes from work for me.
There's a good sized, diverse cycling community in the area, so hopefully this will be a success.

It's great to see it being built in the city too. Go Slavic Village!

Brett Davis has been working on the Cleveland track for a few years and has enlisted some heavy hitters from the local cycling community. With all the local publicity the project has recently generated they will probably obtain the remaining funding with some significant sponsorships and partnerships. I am looking forward to it opening this June.
