He is lucky, could have caused internal injuries with that much pressure.
Welders I know used to think it was funny to let acetylene into a zip lock bag and drop it under their coworkers feet to be ignited by slag...at least until the cops were called with reports of explosions heard :D

Thats why bottles get chained up in a truck bed, not left to roll and vent in a cab.
