You forgot to add a second card in SLI and 2 extra monitors for left & right.

If cost were no object, mine would include 3D stereo, probably nVidia's new 3DVision 2 shutterglasses setup. What I have at the moment is pretty good for my needs, though, typical i5-2500k gaming rig with an SSD boot drive, 16GB RAM, 64-bit Win7 Ultimate, and a GTX460 @ 1920x1080 (which is about to get SLI'ed next week). AND it has an authentic IBM M-series mechanical keyboard! :love:

Well, I think so too, but it's also a bit of a PITA since I've been working so much. I don't have much time for myself, though today I did get a chance to make some room in the shop. I'm adding a radbox on the top of my PC-V354A which will be custom fabbed out of aluminum sheet. Very tough to be artistically inclined when under time pressure, so it will take some time. Right now I have both radiators, the pump (Swiftech MCP35X PWM-controlled), tubing (3/8" ID, 5/8" OD translucent red from Danger Den), some fittings (all matte black Bitspower stuff), two 180mm Silverstone FM181 fans, a Sunbeamtech Rheosmart 3 Fan Controller (PWM control of non-PWM fans) and some plans for waterblocks. Shopping blocks today I found will cost me an additional $350, mainly because I'll be liquid cooling RAM and Mosfets in addition to CPU and GPU...even more when I add a second GTX580.

The current Mac Pro. 12 cores and four 512 GB solid state drives.

My first thought was what "stereo" (now home theater) system. I'd start with McIntosh electronics.

I built a pretty good machine for myself about 2 years ago-
Gigabyte motherboard
Intel Q9400 quad core processor, overclocked to 3.8GHz
4GB ram
WD 750GB Black hard drive
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
Antec 300 case
Xigmatek cpu cooler and 2 added case fans

I don't game so I don't need a fancy video card. This machine is very fast and there is no need to upgrade any of it, except possibly to add an SSD as a boot drive.

If I built a new machine for home now I would probably use the latest Intel Sandy Bridge quad core- i5 2500k, and I would probably use an SSD for the boot drive. Everything else could stay the same.

I do intend to build a new CAD workstation for my office relatively soon. I would use the Intel i5 2500k, or maybe the i7 2600k. For my CAD apps I would go with at least 16GB of ram, and 64bit Windows 7. I would definitely use a 128GB SSD for the boot drive and probably 2 separate mechanical drives for storage and backup.

I have 2 laptops, and my wife and daughter each have one. I have a real fast laptop for CAD use and I have upgraded it to an SSD. I need to upgrade the others as well.

I just put a Corsair Force GT SSD and a Radeon HD 6770 in my computer. I guess I'm good for a few more years.

By the way, if anyone is short on it, DDR3 is obscenely cheap right now.
