Small story

Took my 1990 Specialized Sirrus, lugged steel, 105 Biopace, new Brooks saddle for just over a metric century this morning. The weather's perfect, maybe 22 C. Slight wind, just enought to give a workout upwind and a flattering speed downwind.

New narrow shoes into cages and leather straps. Brooks leather bar tape. Happy bike, happy rider, full of smiles about how good it felt when I bought it in 1990, and all the long rides in France, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Finland....

Parked it at the end of the ride where I'd agreed to have cafe breakfast with spouse o'mat and friends. Got there first, had a cup of tea

Others arrived. I insisted on showing my re-vitalised old-new bike. And, oh bxxxger, its flat back tyre. Was inflated on parking, wasn't on showing

Uplift, deflation. I'm sure there's something poetic about this - but ....

Uplift outweighs the deflation, IMHO. I own two of those bikes (the red to white fade color). After riding the original for four years, I stumbled on a NOS of the same model and couldn't not buy it. Neither have the bio-pace rings anymore; they wore out a long time ago. That model is a sweet riding bike.

I'm guessing if they have any appreciation for a good bike, they would appreciate what you showed them.

It was simply showing its appreciation of you by waiting until after the ride to deflate:)

At 50+, you should expect things to be deflated when you want to show them off.

This year I had two flats (unrelated) while my bike was up on the work stand. I gotta say if you have to flat, that it a great place to do it.

I think we can chalk it up to DnvrFox having way too few goathead flats lately. Over time and distance, things have to even out you know.

I still ride my 1987 original model Specialized Sirrus 105 bike. The only original parts left are the f.d., crank (no longer Biopace) and frame. Can't even estimate how many miles....but still a good ride and--- steel is real and after 24 years still reliable. Have to say the Wolber Alpine rims and 105 hubs were resilient for years. Oh, the cable guide under the b.b. eventually wore out, but it took 18 years. A sweet old friend.

Bump

Bump pop fizz sssss

New tube after the original post incident. 4 or 5 50 or so miles outings. Parked it after the most recent. Flat this morning.

I surmise

Maybe a bad sharp rim
Maybe bad rim tape
Maybe cheap tubes
Maybe the cats think I'm ignoring them, and that their claws are sharp enough to redress
Maybe the new bike is jealous, and I should park it distant from the scissors
Maybe it's all just chance and statistical probability and I should stop posting about an insignificant irritation

But I suspect 'maybe' 4

I think that Murphy's Law guy may have an opinion about bad things happening just when you're trying to show off.
