Bicycle Mechanics - Cheap grease gun ($6) for Speedplay pedals

I just picked up this grease gun for my Speedplay Zero's:

Filled it up from the 1-lb container of marine trailer bearing grease I bought for $3 at an auto parts store and greased both of my pedals.

It worked great. Much cheaper than $38 for the actual Speedplay gun. The local Harbor Freight store had the gun in stock.

Thought I would share this in case someone else is looking for an alternate solution to the Speedplay gun that it much cheaper. I also think the gun should work good for applying grease to other moving parts (bottom bracket bearings, headset), compared to just putting a dipping my finger in the grease tub and smearing it around like I had been doing.

I use those pre-loaded grease guns for chainsaw bearings (looks like one of those syringes from a pharmacy). Any hardware store for about $6 for grease and applicator. Works perfect.

This looks like a duplicate of the Duelco refillable grease guns I've gotten from Bike Tools Etc and Loose Screws over the years for about $8. I fill mine from a 14-oz tube or 22-oz tub of Phil Grease and use it to, among other things, inject grease into my Frogs. As you mention it's not only an injector but a source of controlled amounts of grease for hub and headset bearings and keeps the bulk container and your fingers clean.

I was thinking the same thing as HillRider. That looks just like my Dualco grease gun. I've had the thing for years, keep it filled with Phil Wood's grease and use it for everything, including my speedplays.

I've been using the Harbor Freight grease gun for a few years and it is great. I use marine bearing grease from a tub (purchased for use on my trailer) and it is very clean and convenient. I did drill out the orafice a bit to get better flow (did not go too much larger, just a couple of sizes up on a full drill index).

Great find as well. I thought about just disassembling the pedals for regreasing, but realized I didn't have an easy O-ring source. I'll use those when I fully rebuild them. Between the $6 grease gun and my recent $4 homemade headset/BB30 bearing press I've been saving a lot of money on bike tools.....
