That's so sad to hear...I've ridden through that area a handful of times. The article mentioned about Topanga Canyon also struck a cord with me. The truth of the matter is, it's a rather sketchy road to head up, as are a lot of the areas around there. I haven't done it in probably over a year. Fernwood up to Saddlepeak is my favorite climb in LA, but I just cringe every time riding up Topanga where there is virtually no shoulder, oncoming cars and the car behind you speed past you within inches.
It is understandable that accidents do happen, it's very sad, and that may very well be the case in this tragic event. But regardless people really need to wake up and realize that by getting behind the wheel you're driving something that can kill. The lack of respect for others lives by some people is disgusting. I find it interesting that a lot of the time these people wouldn't think about shooting someone on a bike because they're in the way or holding them back...but they're more than willing to run you off the road with 2000lbs of metal.
Reading articles like this is the reason I constantly question myself when I'm riding out on the street. I've seen people be hit, I've known quite a few people that have been hit, and I pray that I never get hit.
My deepest condolences to the family.

The link has good advice on additional insurance coverage for riders who have auto insurance.
This is really sad to hear. I have not had good experiences with vehicles towing trailers, etc. They mostly always get too close...
I don't think that most people know how to drive with them..

Very sad, I passed by there while they were loading her into the ambulance. Her bike was completely smashed and was under the van that hit her.
