I aquired a free Batavus Intercycle folding bike. White in color, chrome fenders and has a luggage rack. I replaced the tubes and tires ($50.00). Chain is kinked up in the chain guard and the right side crank seems bent. It does have the cranks that are held in place with the wedge screws. I want to ride this bike so am looking to get it road worthy. Before the chain got kinked it rode nice. Questions I have are following;

How does the chain guard come off. I tried!

Am i able to replce the cranks, gears etc to something more modern? Any advice would be appreciated.

I wasnt able to post pics at the time I was needing this information, that would be why I gave the exact name and model of the bike. I decided to take the bike first thing this a.m. to my LBS. I asked for a tune up and explained to them the problem regarding the chain guard. The bottom bracket did have to be removed to take off the chain guard. The tune up took care of all problems. Come to find out, the bike has a Torpedo Duomatic rear hub. And as far as changing out cranks, forks, chain ring etc. in the future, Im good to go, there is compatible items.
Thanks for the reply.

NL Brands just don't appear often across the pond, much.
so its a guessing game for those 9 timezones away.

I was definitly excited about the find on the rear hub. Three different people stopped me and asked me about the bike on the way out of the LBS. I will keep updates on her as I am able. I will try and get some pics on here, I just dont have the means at this point. I have always appreciated the help i get on this site, escpecially from the 'Folding Bike' section.

I like that frame, only two main tubes. Post some more pics when you get a chance. Be interesting to see the folding hinge up close. Good luck on the project.
