Dear Guys,

My name is Carlos from Chile. I'm very interested in a bike tour in USA. I have done some tours in Europe and latin America (Mexico and Cuba included) for two or three weeks, so, I have "some" experience..... not so much.
Always, my interest are focused in the people. I mean, I'm not looking for turistic places or bigs cities. My travel have the basic objetive to know "how the people live there". Of course, If I can ride my bike in nice places much better (much much better if there are mountains). Also in this particular travel, i would like to improve my english. So in order to improve my english, i'm looking for a parter who want to come wtih me. Please any advices, recomendation of routes, dates, etc, etc will be very well received.
My first idea is going to Montana and ride from west to east.
I have close to 15 to 20 days free to ride... if one of you (or more than one) want to come with me ... welcomeˇ
If someone want to take a look of my last ride trough Cuba, take a look at the pics here;

June through September is best for biking in mountainous areas in the US. Montana is sparsly populated so not the best state for finding out 'how the people live.' But you can do ok with that anywhere if you're the out going sort. Much of the US west, east of the coastal states, is sparsely populated with light traffic and long stetches between towns. Very scenic in selected places.

Lots to see and do in the Rapid City, South Dakota area, but as you were not interested in touristy stuff, guess that's not relevant. Hwy 16 from Rapid City to Mt. Rushmore has amazing scenery and would make for a very challenging bike ride, if you're into challenging rides. Famous, twisting, steep, narrow, several tunnels. Not for the faint of heart.

Check out www.crazyguyonabike.com (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com), premier site for touring cyclist. You can post a 'partner wanted' ad there in the Classified section.

For meeting local families, try www.warmshowers.org (http://www.warmshowers.org), a site for connecting hosts with touring cyclists. You need to be able to be a host yourself to use this site. Sort of like couchsurfers, but cycling specific.

Good luck.

Lots of cycle tours begin here on the West Coast, then for example
retrace the return voyage, of the Jeffersonian explorers, Lewis and Clark.

Adventure Cycling Association has a series of researched routes they made strip maps for.
