Folding Bikes - Is this folding bike (brand new) worth $100?

Found 2 of them still in box for $200. I was wanting to ride this winter and needed a beater bike and not ride my Dahon Speed D7 with all the salt on the roads here. I also wanted a softer ride going over the mess. We also need extra folding bikes in the household for the occasional ride for next season. I mean, how bad can they really be? Not going to be going on the hills or racing. It's just for riding on MUPs at medium speeds. I can't find ANY new bike for $100 around here much less one that folds....Thinking about getting them both tomorrow night.

Adjustability of the seat post is limited, and looks like significant stress on the frame latch based upon the design.

For occasional 'guest' use and as a beater bike, would likely be OK, assuming you can assemble and adjust them yourself.

Oh nevermind....I for some reason read ALUMINUM frame but it's just Aluminum wheels....gotta pass....don't want to deal with rusty frame....or else I'd ride my D7 to begin with....

Full suspension and disc brakes on a folder that cheap? I can't imagine it's a quality bike. I'd also be suspicious of any mountain bike with a frame latch. Imagine what happens when that latch fails.

$100 US , retail doesn't allow much QC and decent quality in general.

I would really avoid a cheap aluminum framed Bike at that price-point.

I have something similar but with 20" wheels. Its aweful to ride, you end up bouncing up and down and it flexes a lot. Its fantastic in snow and ice though and at that price you can treat it as disposable if it gets rusty.

If you give me this bike for free + 20 bucks, I'll pass.

That's not a bike. It's a bike shaped object. There are lots of these things to be found in landfills.

They were being sold for $260 a year ago by some importer. I guess this fella bought a couple and never used them. Like I said, I'm just needing something to go to the coffee shop / book store with. It's about 2.6 miles away so about 5 miles round trip. The reason why I want a folder even for winter is for the times I get picked up from the coffee shop for dinner. I can just throw the bike in the vehicle.

I do have a Downtube Nova but the seat post doesn't extend high enough with my 33" inseam even though I've been riding it for the last few days while I'm working on my Dahon.

I'm also eyeing a Dahon Speedstream....if I get that then I would sell all my other folders and just have one.

Sorry, I meant to say Jetstream P8. I can't find too many reviews on it. The ones I have found were pretty positive though.

The Jetstram is nice. Samosaurus has the high end Jetstream and he likes his. His wife rides a P8

David Byrne (from the Talking Heads) used to tote a folder around on tour. Now he spends $100 at Wal-mart each week and leaves the bike somewhere he thinks it will get used. I'm thinking it should last for another week or so.
