Foo - So, what instruments do you play?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Me, I play guitar, Keyboards, Tin Whistle, flute and attract Moose in rut with a Saxophone. :p (I don't have the chops for Sax any more, I guess).
I can fake it fairly well on both the Celtic and Orchestral Harp, as well.

Although I did play the trumpet thru several grades in school, I really didn't like it and dropped out of band.
I am unable to play any instrument that requires both hands, like piano or stringed instuments, due to some obscure brain function lumped in with dyslexia. I would love to be able to play the piano with both hands at the same time.

I have the same sax (alto) my dad bought me when I was 8. I still play at least a few times a year, but all my stuff is in storage at the moment. My wife and sister in law have recorded a some xmas songs.
I'm trying (not very diligently) to learn guitar.
Was taught guitar, picked up mandolin, Upright bass, and tenor banjo afterward. I can generally come up with something on most any stringed instrument that doesn't require use of a bow. I've messed a bit with harmonica and can do basic stuff with them.

I pick away at a classical guitar--not sure if it can classify as "playing".

Well, some would call it playing them.

I have played the flute since junior high school (that's a very long time ago), but now it's only a couple times a year. Used to be pretty good, not so much anymore...

Hey,Tom, do you and your sax have any plans for next moose hunting season, Reuben might need your help. :innocent:
piano since a child
trumpet through college, but not professionally. Last time I played was this evning as I blurted out Happy Birthday as my mother answered the phone. :D
I've recently picked up the harmonica and the alto recorder so, not really playing them just yet. I-I do feel comfortable with the ukulele, now if I could just sing.

In descending order of skill:
Bass (DB and electric), guitar, harmonica, some keys (piano, rhodes, wurly, and hammond), french horn and tuba back in the day, banjo, moog, and can fake a song or two on flute, trumpet, trombone, sax, clarinet, mandolin, drums. All of the above except tuba and clarinet are in my studio. Oh wait, I sold my mando.
My screen name comes from discussions of bass guitar cabinets that can do a gig w/o a second cabinet.

In my dreams I play a wicked steel guitar. Lordy, I play that thing...
Make scream and make it moan. Talk, sing, damn near anything.
I wake up and my talent is limited to nose flutes and mouth harp. Bongos, knee cymbals, washboards, tub-bass.
Can play a blues harp pretty well.

Electric guitar. I used to play the viola and managed some decent sound out of a violin when I picked one up a couple years ago.

Similar to me? I can't talk or hold a conversation while I'm playing. If I'm really concentrating, sometimes I stop breathing too.
average drummer, good bass player, some guitar, below average on sax. I can play The Hustle & Kung Fu Fighting (one octave down) on the flute.
Guitar, primarily accoustic but play around with a dobro as well. Flamenco is my next project.

Large scale audio reinforcement systems, digital recording systems, and just about every pro format mixing console. I also play guitar and bass. I can make just about any instrument make noise, not necessarily good.

Long ago and a place far far away i played the Trombone. Second half of my junior year in HS took up band and was given a trombone, not knowing how to read music or every playing. By the end of the year was sitting 1st chair and made the Long Beach Junior Concert band. Senior year Marching Band, Concert Band, Brass quartet, Jazz band, playing featured solos, District Concert band. 1st year of college Concert Band, Jazz, with the orchestra made a record with Raphael Mendez, then the number one trumpet player in the world. Lost interest after that and have not played since then, although i do have a trombone i picked up at a garage sale a few years back. Can still get a few good notes out of it.

Trumpet. I played in high school band, concert, jazz and marching. I played in college band, concert and marching. Haven't played in awhile though. I'd probably sound terrible.

+1. Would like to learn to play piano as the one I have is just gathering dust. Played clarinet through jr high school. In hindsight I wish I had switched to sax then but was just tired of band at the time I guess.

I'm a professional bass player, have been since ~1974.
I've also played guitar for slightly longer, albeit less seriously -- while once in a rare while I will accept professional gigs on guitar, I generally warn prospective employers that I'm "good enough to be dangerous...mostly to my own reputation" and that prevents anyone from having too high expectations.
I played drums in high school and college, but when I sat down at a drumkit recently it was painfully obvious that >25 years without practicing leaves an indelible mark on ones abilities. (To wit: I now suck.)
I played flute from 4th through 8th grade. Rumor has it I was really good for the first three of those years, but I completely lost interest that last year. I still have my first flute, and pick it up once every decade just to remind myself that if I'd stuck with it instead of becoming a bass player I wouldn't have to drive a station wagon to gigs or give myself a hernia loading in/out now. Ah, hindsight...

I've found I can fit a 3/4 size upright in my Nissan Altima. Doing so is an art though. I've played with a guy who puts one in a 2 door Honda Civic. The hatchback helps him though. I've been pondering a Fiat 500 Abarth when they finally start selling them. That would effectively eliminate any hope of hauling a bass in the car.
I had seriously wanted to lean towards playing bass some years ago, simply b/c guitar players (my main instrument) are a dime a dozen. I realized playing a bass was physically more demanding, but I figured after an adjustment period I'd be okay.
What I forgot to factor in was the much heavier bass amps. One gig of carrying my beautiful (and expensive) new Eden rig down a flight or two of stairs (to say nothing of schlepping it back up, once it was all over) and I was back to the guitar...although I have done a few bass things since then, as many clubs now have a backline of amps provided (albeit with blown speakers, zappy outlets, etc etc)

I play mandolin in a Bluegrass-ish band. We gig just about every other weekend. I can get around in a couple of keys in DADGAD guitar and read charts in standard. I've played keyboards in bands, but I'm rusty. Just gave away my Wurly so I'm down to a MIDI controller. My trombone chops were toast long ago.
I played trumpet for years, hacked at saxophone, and I have a guitar, for which using the term 'play' would have to be pretty loose.

Once upon a time I could play the bass.. I even remember how to play 1 whole song off the top of my head. Currently I'm teaching myself to play the harmonica, ez by comparison.

In a half year, without being able to read or play, you become the best in the group? Way to go! Did Rafael ask you to tour with him?

I play all of the instruments, but I can't play basketball worth a damn. Currently playing guitar in a rock/pop band...show on Friday and again on the 23rd!! \m/
I own a bunch, including a 1920's grand piano and a Syrian oud.

I can't play squat and it really annoys me. How unfair is it that someone who loves music so much can be so tone deaf?

It might be that you haven't found the right instrument and/or teacher. I'd keep trying. I have a good ear but am not a natural musician at all - everything has been a struggle. But as you say, I love it, so I put in the effort when I can. Think about giving it another shot!

regrettably none. I traveled a ton through life and had tons of other pursuits that got in the way. Now I wish I could. I actually sang instead (more portable) but I have been known to pick my way through songs on the piano or guitar. One of these days I really ought to actually learn to play. Music is sooo enriching and to be unable to produce it yourself is heart wrenching at times.
