Bicycle Mechanics - Pathetic Question, clinking?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have the most annoying kind of clinking/creaking noise comming from my bike. None of the derauilers are touching the chain. I grease the chain and cassettes. When I flip the bike around and move the pedals, there is no noise. It sounds like it might be coming from something around the pedals.
I know this is hard to troubleshoot via internet, so I'll probably take it to the shop. I just don't want to because the bike is working fine.

If the noise goes away when you turn the pedals and you're not on the bike, it might be something to do with the seatpost, or seat itself. Try taking the seatpost out and greasing it, which is a good idea periodically anyway, and make sure the seat is on the post tight enough.
Sounds like the noise only occurs when your weight is on the bike. If the above doesn't work, it could be the pedals as well, or even the bottom bracket and it only clicks under load.
Good luck!
Don't laugh...
I had a creaking problem which was due to my shoe rubbing against the pedal crank. I use look pedals! The when i polishe dmy shoes the noise went.
Assuming your BB is securely mounted in your frame (cartridge-style BBs can creak) and your cranks are securely mounted on the BB spindle, creaking from the pedal area can be an advance warning of impending crank failure at the pedal eye. Remove the pedals and inspect the pedal eyes carefully for any cracks or scratches.
