Yes I'm in CA, I know we don't have hard winters. In NorCal it does at least get chilly though. This weekend past was a brisk 32F at the start of our ride, and while I've got most of my cold weather gear worked out where I like it, I can't get my hands happy - always go cold, numb and sore when it's in the low 30's. I've tried using PI Gavia gloves and recently used Cyclone gloves, but they just aren't doing it for me below 40.

So, what are your recommendations for gloves for the low 30's which still retain some dexterity and won't be sweat boxes if the temp rises to 40F later in the ride?

Thanks in advance.....

There will probably be better answers, but I put a regular pair of my running gloves over my fingerless bike gloves. When the temp heats up I take off the running gloves. I use a pair of Asics fleece gloves I got for free when I bought my latest pair of running shoes.

I've had good luck with $10 department store gloves down to 30f. I got $5 polypro glove liners also for an extra layer.
Last year I went "all out" and bought LL Bean winter gloves for $18 on sale. They are fine for me down to 20f.

Thanks guys. Out this morning again in the low 30's I had better luck wearing my Specialized Ridge long fingered gloves under my pair of PI Gavia gloves.

>.> Personally, I've started using fresh pairs of work gloves..these ones to be specific http://www.coopersafety.com/Atlas-Therma-Fit-Gloves-12-Pack.jpeg?id=1129&W=600&H=600
It was meant as temporary measure till I bought something appropriate, but they just work so damn well at keeping my hands warm and giving me grip (I do keep my fingerless actual bike gloves in my pocket for when it warms up though)

I had problem finding something that breathes and keeps warm at same time. Finally got my Gore ALP-X WS Gloves one that works great. Giro blaze2 was close but not quite. I think Giro Ambient 2 might have been perfect but local REI didn't have my size.

Update, After thinking I'd solved my problem with a two glove approach another ride start at 27F proved me wrong. I ended up going all in and snagging a pair of these

And of course, now the weather has warmed up...

Will report back when I get the chance to test them out below freezing again.

Try heading out at 6am! I'm riding east of the Oakland/Berkeley hills which is always 10-15 degrees colder than bayside temperatures.

If I had to get my morning time in so early, I'd probably hit the trainer, fog, frost,no light and knuckleheads sounds like a bad mix in wine country!!!

Early AM is pretty good in my experience, you just need good lights and a can of HTFU.

LoL a big old can of it! To be quite honest, the thing that I can't sit with yet is possibly hitting frost patches with my road tires and slipping.. I still haven't had any road spills.
