Taking the week off from work I went up a local climb called May Canyon, It's closed to cars and the ride gains about 3600 feet in about 8 miles. I don't know why but the ridge at the top is the coldest place around here.
Here, I'm on the lower part of the climb.

It's one of those climbs where every time you round a corner you see another one ahead.

Lots of steep stuff and cold headwinds on some of it.

Looking back, it's getting colder and the wind is awful in the exposed areas. That's the Pacific shining out there.

In the distance you can see snow, I am not going that far today, it's too windy.

Here is a view of the Santa Clarita valley, the other side of the mountain from my start.

Turning back to begin the descent.

Whoa dude! 3600' in 8 miles, epic climb. Plus we have been so cold here, has to be chilly there. Great views of the valley.

Thanks for sharing, big john. May Canyon is terrific. I've ridden it and I also used to run it in preparation for marathons (before my left knee said "no more"). I'm taking next week off and plan on riding, well not May Canyon, but Little Tujunga Canyon and its environs (although those loose dogs I hear about have me concerned!) Hope to see you on the road soon.

Is that gravel?

Well done!

No, it's paved but pretty rough. There are places where the pavement is missing and there is sand covering parts of it. It's rarely maintained and I prefer to ride the mtb up there but sometimes take the road bike.

That sounds about like Tuna Canyon, but twice as long. Thanks for posting!
