Mountain Biking - Norco vs Kona

just how strong are kona and norcos frames on their dirt jumpers? can some one give me some stats, or what they have been tested on? i am going to buy a kona shred 2005 i hope.

Very similar i think.... The one25 and 4 Hun are nice, although the 4 hun is more of a street rig...

If you was going for an all out dj rig, i would go for the Norco personally.... The frames are purposely built purely for Dirt jumping and street, wheres as the Kona is built for abit of everything... Konas build quality is excellent though, just as good as Specialized and norco, maybe even better

excellent, thank you....im definitly buying a kona shred now....(off topic)my friend(poorest rider in the world) just got a norco sasquatch, yeah his parents just spent $1100 on him, hes gone from a malvern star to that, yes i burnt up in rage, doesnt it annoy you guys when others get great bikes when they wont even be used to their potential??

Not really... its their money, if they want to spend it its up to them..... And whats saying they arent going to improve and really get into mountain biking...

Try not to think about it, find a group of half decent riders and go with them, concentrate and you prgressing and not other people... watch people better than you and you'll be all sorted..

Norco Sasquatches are nice bikes, i almost bought one but decided against because i didnt think i'd use it to its full potential.

I ride a Kona and I'm 400lbs...I'm happy with mine, though mine is a clydesdale frame, the hoss dee-lux.

Both bike line-ups are rated to exactly 1 metric buttload of abuse.

Not exactly. The drivetrain (ahem 900+ CDN dollars for an altus rear) is absolutely outrageous. Even mine had alivio.

However, the fork seems decent and the bike is overall nice. And cornish, Norco "djs" are acutally north shore or supercross, more like street rig/ north shore rig, whereas the Kona's are more strictly dj, but can still be used for everything.

I also encourage kona because I heard they stick with their 1 year warranty and they also have a crash replacement. That means, if you smash and crash and crack your frame, (abuse) you can get your frame back for what KONA pays for the frames, not the what the dealers pay. At least, my dealer does this and it's sweet.

Norco, of course is amazing. Personally, I wanted norcos at first, but they're slightly too expensive, not for value, but for the starting price for freeride bikes. Their Adventure bikes aren't the bomb, and the street rigs and north shore rigs with suspension are like 1k+ in CDN dollars, which bites the wallet pretty hard for a 13 year old kid. <-- Me.

MZ RACE fork which bites the dust for djing.

AWESOME frame.
Nice seat.
The discs are decent, but could be better.

I love my bike, with some money, it would be awesome, see KonaRider24 for that. 3k+ USD HARDTAIL. Using a kona dj frame. My guess is that he likes it alot. I can't see why not, if he likes hardtails.

i can not agree more...

And yes it makes me mad that people buy amazing bikes and never use them... it is not the not using it to its full, it is just not using it at all that makes me mad. As well as the polishers... the one that only bought it for the name and ride out to the track just to show off their new s-works and never leave the one mile loop. The the green in me builds but i know I have more skill so it all works out. They have no skill and everyone who sees them walk around the log pile laughs and it stops inside me.

id say norco simply because thats what i prefeer, although many might disagree, its another one of those opinion questions i think...

Well as you can see i ride a Norco (2003 Sasquatch), and it is very strong and so do all the other Norcos. My brother and three of my riding friends have Konas and they seem very strong also. Obviously Norcos are a little more on the expensive side compared to Kona. If your tight on money definetly go for a Kona between the two. Bottom line, they are both great companies the way i see it.

O yeah, for my reasoning on the pricing.

DJ bikes dont need to be made of Ti, have amazing suspention, or even have supertacky big tires! They need to be strong, suspention doesnt matter....its one hit at a time, not stutter bumps.

I could price out an amazing DJ bike for under $1300...

Couldn't have said it better. In fact if you go ss and mech disc, I think 1300 is really easy to hit :) Djing you don't need much beyond strong.

I think Im going to rid myself of another 8 speeds. Second gear in front, 8 in rear. No granny, no super. Just makes my life a bit easier and less skipping (Stupid alivio) to deal with.
