We're doing a winter vacation in Cuba, and I need some help figuring out what to bring. We've never done a sunny destination vacation before. My wife has been strongly suggesting that I should leave the speedo at home :(
Any suggestions?
Afaik is just like my Island but with commies. You shall take sunglasses, sun block, sandals, t-shirts and shorts. Maybe some bug spray.

No underwear?
A yacht with a walk-in humidor.
A yacht with a *customs proof* walk-in humidor.

A Speedo in a metallic sheen, a tuxedo t shirt and platform shoes with live goldfish in the heels.
I guess only the Cannuckers are permitted in (even now) because of the Kennedy vs Castro pissing match from the 60's.
From recent pictures I've seen from local Ohio Cubans, except for the select tourist areas, the island is showing a lot of neglect and decay.
*Keep your Canuck-bucks in your sock, your not in Saskatoon dude.
No underwear?
No underwear and little as possible so's to have more room to stash the cigars in.
Pack old Chevy parts to trade.
Sell train tickets to Florida to the locals for $100.

Bring copies of the Canadianist Manifesto and start distributing them. Maybe you can convert them to Canadianism.

Why would we want to screw with a good thing. If they convert to Canadianism, these Cuban vacations will start to get expensive.

I guess Cuba is like stepping back into the 1950's. That's one of the intriguing parts to the trip. Although we'll be staying in a resort, they run excursions into the city. We'll be checking it out at least once.

Although we can buy Cuban cigars here in Canada, apparently it's a lot cheaper to bring them in from Cuba when vacationing there. I've got a couple of people from work that have put in an order. If I happen to be close to a place that sells them, I'll pick some up.

Great minds think alike. Already had them packed, but the wife nixed them. Said something to the effect that she wanted to "enjoy the vacation ... yada yada ...insulting the locals ... yada yada ... no one needs to see a 45 year old in a speedo ... yada yada ...".
I think I'll still sneak the speedos into the suitcase :D

I usually complet the ensemble with a sombrero, a black one with lots of sequins and piping and beading in a metallic color to compliment the speedo. But then again I am a Texican and I vaca in Mexico.
You being a Canadian in Cuba, might go with a brightly coloured togue.
I hear things have got a bit better since we were there but take some pads, pencils, pens, crayons etc. and drop them off at a local school. Leave your emergency medical kit behind with someone when you go. There are folks who would really appreciate bike parts you no longer use. If you (or anyone else who's going) plan to do any driving pick up hitchhikers as the local transportation system is terrible - it's good to meet the locals and you will need directions anyway as the road signage is crazy (you only see the sign to a community after you leave the main highway). All of these things will be appreciated. Otherwise, I really enjoyed Cuba. My wife got sick just befere our flight home and the medical system treated her very well (confirmed by doctors after we got back to Canada). Spend some time walking around Havana and send some pics when you get back.

Seeds from your local seed bank. And bail money. Lawyers and guns, too.

Do you know something I don't ?
Speedo's are ok. Just wear board shorts over top until you get to the beach. Linen pants/shirts are always welcome in the Caribbean. Other than that, buy a straw fedora and cigars there. The culture in Cuba is great and it is very un-american. I hope the sanctions stay in place. It would be a shame to see Marriott, PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory and Starbucks on every corner. Look after the locals with tips. Share the wealth! :)

Warren Zevon reference...
Also, for culture, you'll need to watch every episode of I Love Lucy, as Ricky Recardo is (as we all know) ...Cubist? Cubamanian? Cubish? (No, not Cubish - that sounds like you're saying someone is "sort of from Cuba, but not really")
...and don't forget your Che Guevara shirt...

Actually shirts and shorts are my big problem right now. I have a bunch of short sleeved, button up shirts, but none that are overly summerish. I'm willing to go buy some new ones, but not sure where to go. Most places only have winter clothing out right now. My shorts are mostly the type you'd see on the golf course ... boring.

OK, I'm about to bare my soul right now. I think I had started a thread about this a year or so ago, but I'm a freak about creating lists to help be organized. Here's my Cuban Vacation packing list. Any suggestions for anything I've missed, or have too much of? I tend to over-pack as you're about to see :o

I really think Alfster bringing his DNA seed sample to Cuba is in poor taste.
