Thanks for sharing. I love the plastic, stretch-wrapped bike idea.

Do you follow pathlesspedaled.com and the adventures of Russ and Laura? They are currently tooling around NZ on Bromptons.

your welcome! the wrapping did help to cover a little more distance - since i only had 3,5 weeks. Yes, i do follow pathlesspedaled.com. I find the idea with foldable bikes quite interesting.

Great photos. I spent nearly four months on my bike cycling around NZ, both north and south islands in 1994. Fantastic place, especially on a bike. I had the same headwind riding up that bloody great big hill by Lake Taupo too! What a bummer having to pedal down the other side. That headwind was blowing the flags horizontal and I was against it all day. I was nearly in tears at one point.

Possums are indeed a pest. I bought a possum skin seat cover on the south island to help break in a brand new Brooks saddle. It worked!

Brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing.

Just saw these. One of my favorite trips was from Auckland up to Cape Reinga. It was great. I didn't go along 99-mile beach (as they were calling it). I rode up the east coast-ish highway from Bay of Islands, then up to Cape Reinga. I slept down on the beach just to the east of the Cape itself. Terrible thunderstorm came up. Tent was comfortable, location was remote. Gorgeous. The meeting of the seas is one of the coolest things I've seen in person. your pictures brought a lot back. Thanks.
