Ive been into bikes for a long time. I particulary like old Raleighs. Ive had a few Mark 1 and 2 Choppers, Burners, Grifters,RSW and Shopper bikes, over the years. At present I have a Mark 1 Burner, a Grifter, and a Raleigh Stowaway. Also have a Raleigh Traveller 3 speed roadster, and a Raleigh Europa 10 speed racer. And a bunch of modern MTBs.
Last year I got made homeless, after a family fight. So I got rid of all my possesions. A lot of bikes got scrapped, or given away.
I then got a place of my own. And got an Apollo Wayfairer folding bike, as a project bike. In some ways its better than a Twenty. As it has standard threadings and space for 2" tyres.

I had a thread on here for it. I built an alloy rim onto the 3 speed hub. Got Diacompe levers that are from a racer with tribars. taped up the bars with the cables under the tape. I drilled the frame to run internal cables. I got a set of BMX brakes. It was an ok bike.

Theres a junkyard in the town, about 10 miles from where I live. They get in stuff from all around. theres ussualy a few bikes. And they get put on the scales, and they calculate the scrap value. Thats the Raleigh Stowaway at the junkyard gate. I got it, along with the hacksaw frame and a stainless steel flask, for £6. Thats just a bit more than a bicycle magazine. I think it was 17 kilograms. I had some tools in my rucksack. so adjusted it a bit. then biked around town on it. :)

I cleaned it up a bit.
I was up a few times to the junk yard. I got alloy roadster bars, stem and controls. Also some other wheels and stuff. The bars I have fitted, but there an odd size. The Weimann levers have 23.5mm stamped on them. I cant get the twistgrip on the bars. So got a trigger shifter. :(

Thats the bike standing up for itself, on the beach.
I have since fitted an alloy microadjuster seat pin, a black saddle, and an alloy seat clamp.
I have stripped down the Apollo. scrapped the frame. As I have way too many bikes. I kept most of the parts tho. So I cleaned up the wheels. And fitted them. They are 20" 406 erto wheels. The Raleigh had 451 wheels on it. So its quite a bit lower. Theres Schwalbe Marathon 20x1.5" tyres on them. So theres plenty clearance in the forks.
I fitted the BMX brakes. They are alloy sidepull calipers, with long V brake pads, with the thick gimball washers between pad and brake arm. The pads hit the frame, when the cables not connected. I connected the front cable. adjusted up the brake. Its ok. the drop from fork crown brake bolt hole is about 85mm. But at the rear its around 100mm. My BMX brake isnt long enough. I will look thru my brake spares. Maybe another caliper in there. I have heard of people filing the hole in the frame. I might do that.
