Welcome aboard... strange that the story of a guy touring California and eating thousands of Free Range Figs inspired you to ask about bombproof, big guy pedals. I would have expected questions like- 1 ply versus 2 ply toilet paper or availability of restrooms, usage of Preparation H or even, the local prices on Tums & Rolaids. Hmm, to each his own I guess.

As for your question... MKS Touring Pedals. Available through QBP or your LBS, Rivendell, Peter White, Ebay from time to time, etc. If you want clipless... someone else will need to respond.

My 450 lb friend rides Shimano 505's without any trouble. Granted he's just doing city commuting but they've done fine so far.

Screw 1-ply and minimalism.
I use the 2-ply charmin ultra extra fluffy with aloe and vitamin E. And they're quilted! :p

Until researchers discover the link between toilet paper with things like color additives, Aloe, perfume, Vitamin E, etc and colon/rectal cancer.
