Foo - help me design a cow catcher for my chair, I keep running over my cat.

One of my dogs is no smarter than your cat. She gets rolled over on a regular basis.

Try giving her a warning, like ringing a zefal bell a moment before you get up. I bet you get a nice pavlovian response fairly quickly.

what if I'm just shifting?

Get a sheet of flexible stiff plastic, the stuff they use to vacuuam form plastic molds. It might be PE that is a few hundredths thick.

Cut a disc out of it with a hole in the center and form a cone to over the wheels. Or heck, just cut any sort of disc out of thin plywood, luan, whatver and then fasten that over the base of your chair with zipties or somsuch.

Swing your feet around a couple of times before you move. If you smack into the cat, you'll know she's there. Hopefully she'll move after she gets smacked a few times.

Borrow Couch's new skateboard and strap the cat to that. One little push with your foot and she rolls out of the way.

now that's an idea...
I have a bunch of casters, so I just need a piece of board to fashion them to, and the cat can sleep on top of that.

Can you spray citrus oil around the chair?

rig up a motion sensor to servo on a spray bottle or some kind of hydro system like they used to use on produce before that whole legionnaires disease outbreak.

You may, you very well may. I've found that doing the Chicken Dance will move anything out of my way, from humans to pets to stone walls, if they're paying any attention at all.

Your chair is metal, right? I'm assuming that the castors are plastic and therefore non conductive.
Ok, what you need is a four by four piece of metal screen, some jumper cables, and a battery out of a truck...
