Thank you Joe for sponsoring this subforum for my travelogue/journal. I've learned a lot of useful info during my short time on the forums and I hope I can contribute to the wealth of cycling knowledge and experience that can be found here.

I will be starting my cycling tour through the Americas at approximately mid-June 2002 at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. I hope to use Bikeforums as a way to keep people posted on my whereabouts and experiences throughout the trip.

I've been unemployed now for about 2 weeks and am making my way to Miami to train for about a month before the start.
I've been keeping an electronic journal since November 2001 and I will be writing entries here to continue sharing my experiences while preparing for the trip and during the trip after June.

I hope you all enjoy following along.

Peace
Dave

Wow Dave!

I feel humbled... I haven't done a thing to prepare for Italy really, except cut back on ding dongs... and that's only because I don't think they sell ding dongs in Italy, and I don't want to go into ding dong withdrawal while I'm there!

;)

Anyway, I'm interested to see how you do this. Good luck with your trip!

Slowly Koffee,
I haven't begun any kind of training regiment just yet, as I am still meandering down from work in Alaska. I've been waking up my muscles with some hiking and yoga, and this weekend me and some friends might do some biking in Moab.
Basically, when I get back to FL in early May, I am going to try to begin touring so I can realize what my gear needs are. That is the most important to me. I know I can't prepare myself physically for what I'll be experiencing at the beginning of the trip until I actually start. My goal is to get in good enough shape so I can avoid major soreness at the beginning, and to be able to out peddle Grizzly Bears. :)

I'm looking forward to checking out your Italian adventure. Do you plan on going through Cinque Terre on the West coast? Its near Genova. I reccomend it if you haven't been there before.
