Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Your points will be visible to you and the moderation team only.
LoL they actually tell you when they "warn" you?
Oh yes of course we do. You will get a PM from the issuing moderator with option to protest it with an administrator. Usually one gets a nice PM first. If the same actions continue, you get an official PM warning which you will see on your profile. After that if it continues, you get an infraction. Three infractions will give you a one week ban. Infractions do expire and the dates are shown on your profile as well.
For someone to be permanently banned, they REALLY have to do a lot of damage to the community. I mean pages and pages of infractions.
Keep in mind that before any action is taken, it is discussed amongst other moderators to come to an appropriate resolution. Sometimes we WILL reverse an infraction if you give reason why it should not have been administered and it is reasonable.
In watching the actions of others, some may question why a person is temporarily banned (because they have not seen the offending posts) but the chances of leaving the reason (posts that are in violation of the forum guidelines) still posted publicly is nil.
Mean, nasty, threatening and derogatory PMs also will earn one an infraction if it violates the forum guidelines.

The posts that the person got banned for are never posted on the banned users thread nor is there a link to the thread in which it is contained. So it's hard for me to understand how you know what exactly someones banning post is.
We leave basic reasons for the banning such as accumulation of points (one warning and three infractions or three infractions), high maintenance (which means we have spent a very large amount of time on a member's actions), etc.

getting a PM giving you a heads up that something you posted wasn't acceptable isn't a warning
A warning is recorded on your profile under the "infractions" tab.
You will get a PM that looks like this:
Dear joebananna,
You have received a warning at Bike Forums.
Reason:
-------
Inappropriate Language
Please allow the site censor software to do its work. If you want to discuss what words are censored on BF, I suggest you PM Tom Stormcrowe. Under no circumstances is it acceptable to misspell a word to bypass the censor.
Please consider this rule while drafting future posts.
Regards,
Eric, a BF moderator

I see reasons like crossposting/spam/ or some other insert obnoxious behavior in here and I wonder to myself how fine the line is, does that make more sense?

Go to your profile, if you don't have an infraction tab then you don't have any warnings or infractions. Only you and the staff can see your infraction tab if it exists.

We are actually pretty lenient here, so a lot of it is based on how many times you do something or the severity. We let a lot of people slide because the moderation team really does not like to ban. And to make it even easier, the PM may have content to the point of telling you that one more time will result in us having to follow protocol - meaning, issue an infraction. So yes, you are usually pre-warned so the line should not be so fine.

Yes.
Okay, I have to ask, why would someone request a banning?
Siu Blue Wind
12-24-11, 06:48 PM
Because they are finding Bike Forums a distraction. We usually will get it during finals or midterms.
I've never wondered where I am in relation to that, but I do frequently wonder how wild & crazy somebody gets to get banned. Lotsa sock puppets, I recall seeing.....

Yep. It was few years back. I think it happened in Roadie forum around 07. Still have message exchange with the ex-mod. The ex-mod still around, I don't think the other member is. Of course I am still here posting asinine things. :D

Hey, not so touchy. I'm thinking of several other members mainly the foot doctor in KY.
I banned myself for a while and the issues resolved themselves, more or less, and it's cool. It is kinda funny, though, shucks, you just quit. I guess quitting tobacco, alcohol, cocaine, non-injected opiate by-products, self-destructive personal relationships and a major pot smoking thing before I ever ran across BF prepared me. One morning I would wake up and think "Damn. I had enough of that for a while" and stop. Tobacco was THE worst. Damn that was HARD 2 Q U I T.

The software didn't seem to like your requests, and asks you to try again after removing the chicken from your head. Or is that a duck?
