I've done this the last three years. I made the last climb the first year, but had to walk part of it the second year. Last year I made it again, but just barely.

I'm thinking I may have to quit while I'm ahead :)

Here's last year's GPS info. I ended up with just a hair under 10K of climbing, the biggest chunk of it coming in the last three miles

I'd like to give that a try one year but my big goal for 2012 is the Mountain Mama Challenge which is also held in Va

I did it last year. The title is very fitting. I finished it in around 9.5 hours I believe. My computer died about 3/4 of the way through the ride, so I was going off what someone else told me. I did it with a compact crank and 11/28 cassette. The last climb is hard. Very hard. But if you can make it over the previous climbs with a little energy left, you can grind up the final climb. And, there is no shame in walking. I passed many people walking. I'm not sure how I did it actually. I was just feeling really good that day.

I'm hoping to do it this year as well.

No. I don't do anything with "misery", "hellish" or "deadly" in the title.
Or "high colonic" but that's for a completely different reason.

I like the climbing rides. Done this one 4 times, 100 miles 10,000ft. 7:40 total offical timed event/7:10 ride time.

I wanted to try bettering my time again this year (June) but work has been killing me with OT. :D

If work slows a bit, I might do it, if not, training will be tough if I plan to post a good ride time. :twitchy:
