Rode for an hour in my Christmas present, my nice 50+ jersey.

Sadly, it was on the trainer.:(

But the jersey looks good!! Even draped over this tubbalard.

Spring is on the way, it will get to go on a real ride before too long...

Broke in my 50+ shorts on Xmas eve. Sorry no pics. Hope to get rest of kit in use this week.

Don't use the 50+jersey on a trainer--They have a tendency to shrink round the waist unless they see a lot of road miles.

I've been wearing my 50+ jacket on weekend rides. I wear hi-viz jackets commuting during the week. It's nice to have something different for the weekend.

Thanks, Bev. I was reluctant to purchase a 50+ jersey because vanity kept me from announcing my age across my back for the whole world to see. However, vanity apparently doesn't mask anything.
Yesterday, while theMister and I were riding, we passed a teenage girl who took one look at us, waved, and said, "Aww-www, cuuutttee!!!!" As in, "Look at those sweet, old people out riding their little bikes together."

+1. Are you clipped on the pedals yet? I recall you had bought the shoes, but had some trepidation about wearing them.

What?!

Get off the trainer. There's some breaks out there.....in-between a few rain, snow and hail showers. Temp's around 40, winds 8-10mph with gust to 20mph......just HTFU and go for it. Oh, you may need a jacket besides the jersey.

As a courtesy to your husband, I won't embellish anymore, and agree with "10"...... Looking Good!! +2

I thought there was a sticky at the top of the forum to order one, but I don't see it now. Is it a periodic group purchase that I have to wait for, or can they be ordered at anytime?

GFish, David 58 is probably out riding as I write this. You may not have noticed that the OP started this thread in December. I just resurrected it today because I couldn't find the "Show Us Your 50+ Jerseys" thread. :)

Thank you for your kind words.

Yo Spiff,
It is a periodic group purchase that cccorlew has been kind enough to manage for us. The aforementioned jerseys were from December's order.

Thank you, Jim.
I do feel a bit nervous about clipless, and I can hear the readers of this post screaming, "HT*U", but I've never really been terribly macho, so their cries don't faze me. However, I bought the shoes because I was having some foot cramping issues wearing my Pumas. The hard-soled bike shoes solved the problem and I bought them knowing I could switch them to accommodate clipless should I decide to do so. I have a pair of Candy 2s, still in the box, on a shelf in my bikes' boudoir.

I have ridden distances of 80+ miles with platforms and never thought, "Gee, I wish I was clipless right now." When I do, I will switch. I know this attitude will cost me a likely membership in to Club Tombay, but I can live with that.

I guess I'll get mu jersey the next time around then. Probably better that way anyway, since I've been dropping a lot of weight and may be at my goal later this year..

Where does one get a 50+ jersey???

Sorry. I guess I didn't read the previous threads thoroughly!
Please forgive my stupidity.

There will be a thread by cccorlew when he gets time to manage another goods' order for jerseys, shorts, bibs, jackets, etc. The sticky at the top of the forum page tells you about the jerseys and other kit pieces he has designed and what to do to order. When he posts the announcement he will give a time frame for placing the order, a post when the kit comes in and when he has posted them. Curtis spends a whole lot of his own time on this and it is worth the wait to get the kit. I love my jersey and will order some bib shorts and a jacket the next round. Just keep your eyes open for the thread.

Miss K', you look great in the 50+ jersey.

Ironically, I was on the trainer on the 18th - had too many chores (mowing the grass while it snowed), kid home from college for the week, and etc. The Jersey DID get a real break-in, a 40-miler in January, followed by getting shown off at Chatoe Rogue during my post-ride beer(s).

It will be worn in its first race on April 1, the Mudslinger, a nasty muddy mtb race. I plan to wear the sucker out this year so's I get to order another.

Tombay is a badge. My wife earned hers in a most ungainly way, and was the first to laugh. Mine was in front of dozens of drivers at a major intersection - I am sure I was entertainment for someone. Sure I made someone's day.

I couldn't imagine clipless at first. In two weeks I have my first mtb race, and can't imagine riding without them.

I wore mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I must say it is the smallest XL anything I've ever owned :) Good incentive to start pedaling and lose some of this gut that expanded over the winter. Ha!

Well Miss Kenton, if you elect to join, a current thread on the Fifty Plus Forum describes the requirements:

…There are rules for entering Club Tombay and they are very simple. The fall has to be attributable to Brain fade or mechanical failure in which you fail to get the feet out of the pedals and a fall ensues. This can be any type of pedal but platform claims are scrutinised very carefully. Bonus points are added for Blood- personal injury- and bystanders showing concern for your predicament. "EXTRA" bonus points if off duty nurses render assistance or if it is recorded on video .Superficial damage to the bike and person is to be expected but severe damage to the bike can downgrade your claim as the bike should be protected at all times.

Entry is very simple and although many here are members of the Club- A certificate can be forthcoming if a post is made with "Entry to Club Tombay" in the header and a full description of the event is made. This is a new thing and cannot be awarded retrospectively. The decision for entry is then made by the 50+ members.
So this is an exclusive club that will gain you merit points amongst your peers- but do you really want to join?
I had four opportunties, but all occured before I started reading BF. :(

"breaking something in" on a trainer doesn't count.
