Great Lakes - Cleveland Ohio - what events should I do in 2012?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm a 55 year old hybrid rider. This past season was my first year riding. I managed to do The PEP ride in Huron & the STOMP ride and Corn Ride in the Cuyahoga Valley.
What other events should I plan on doing in 2012? I look to ride no more than 50 or so miles / day. Long tours are out due to schedule limitations. What are the other major fun rides in the greater Cleveland, Northern Ohio area that I should attend?
Thanks!

If you want an early start to your 2012 season, try the ABC Ride in Medina. Its a free ride up to 24 miles held on New Years Day.

I don't know that it qualifies as a 'major' ride, but the Ohio City Bicycle Coop has their Marmots Meander ride on Feb 4th. It should be fun and can be a short to longish ride (depending upon what the weather is like) and includes some pretty darn good chilli (vegan with meat on the side). There are some details here:

I'm liking this idea, it kind of reminds me of the BRR in Iowa. If I'm healed up by then consider me in.

Hope your healed up and even if you are not up for riding, you could still stop by for some food surrounded by a bunch of bicycle stuff. ;)

Super to hear! An enthusiastic YES -- the more the merrier.
Encourage the folks you contact to register, although that is only really needed if a loaner/rental bike is going to be needed. We want to try to track numbers to make sure we have enough food for after the ride.
Also, feel free to 'like' Ohio City Bicycle Co-op on facebook.

In Columbus, theres Pelotonia in August, and someone mentioned TOSRV, but thats quite a bit longer than youre looking for, GOBA is a week long trip, so thats probably out. Theres also a new one this year, in September, called The Ohio Gran Fondo. Those are some of the rides Im doing this year

I just got an email about the Greene County Classis which takes place in July. It is a four day event on some really great trails down in the Xenia (Cinci/Dayton) area. I did it last year and it was fun. It is also pretty inexpensive.
