After doing some research online, the color scheme indicates this bike model was made in 1990. The owner claims it has been sitting in his closet for the past several years. He put 5,000 miles on it and bought it used 15 years ago. I took it for a test run obviously and rode it pretty hard just to make sure it wouldn't fall apart. As you can see in the pictures it has Shimano 600 gears and breaks. It is being sold in Panama City FL, coming from Denver this area seems to be cheaper (and much crappier place to live). In my opinion $450 seems too much, any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

21 year old Composite carbon frame, with down tube shifters? Seller is crazy on this one. To me, seller is so far from reality, making a realistic offer at this point would probably be considered an insult. I would wait until the seller comes around some on pricing. Tricolor 600 bits are nice. Tires don't match, low interest in 20 year old composite frames. For 21 year old bikes, the $450 price point buys almost anything.

Sorry you've got no PC love. I've had some good rides with the Emerald Coast Cycling Club while on vaca's in the area, and there is (was) a pretty active tri-club in the area, too. (not that I do those things).
But back to the bike. If that bike had some 105 or higher STIs, $450 might be reasonable (with matching tires). But not for a 1990 DT shifter-equipped bike in that market. A little N of you in B'ham I could probably get $300 for that bike if I really presented it well, in the Spring, and was willing to wait for the right buyer.
I took a quick glance at your CL and found a couple I would consider better buys, but they were smaller than the one you linked.

I am not a reseller but I agree I think $450 is alot for that bike. if it has 600 brakes and gears what are the cranks and hubs? also that bike looks pretty small does it fit? with 5000+ miles the bike very likely needs a good overhaul, a new chain and possibly new rings aswell.
I do not think you can test ride a bike like this looking for a signs of an inpending frame breakage. your better off looking carefully at the painted alloy parts of the joints for small (tiny) cracks, a blackish dust that doesn't seem to have come from the brakepads or chain.

Same here...600 Ultegra with down tube shifter bikes are $275-300 bikes.

Thanks everyone for the insight, glad I posted on here before I made an offer. I will wait until something better comes along!

I will check out the Emerald Coast Cycling Club when I find a bike. I may have to check out CL in the surrounding areas to find something worth while. Hope I can stuff it in my civic!

Unfortunately, the seller will not reply to my email. What do you think about this puppy? I think the 54 cm will fit perfectly and I could probably talk him down since its been posted for a while.

Definitely a solid deal on that Trek 2000. I rarely see newer brifter equipped bikes for less than $400. Grab it and forget the overpriced carbon tubed oddity.
That Trek 2000 should not last long. Its not entry level either, its a good step up. $400 plus around here during riding season.
