Very cool!

If anyone is interested in Team 7-Eleven, I highly suggest a new book by Geoff Drake with team manager Jim Ochowicz, that I got for Christmas. It really does a very good job of describing those care-free, free wheeling days of this team, the riders and Americas real start into European racing. I admit, I didn't follow cycling much back then, (heck, I didn't even know Eric Heiden was a world class cyclist!) but this book really brought those days into perspective and it really showed that with some American ingenuity, alot of faith, and one mans dream, we broke into the insular world of European Tour racing. Oh, and one of the teams biggest disappointments was that they never got Lemond to sign with them. I threw that in for you LemondFanForeve!

Great reading, I couldn't put the book down!

"Huffy"

I also have that book, got it at Interbike this year. That party was something else. Free but watered down vodka drinks, at least got to meet the 7/11 guys. However briefly. After standing in a long line.

Explain: is there a book titled "Huffy" that chronicles the 7 Eleven team, is that what you're saying, or am I thinking of the 7 Eleven book that was released not too long ago?

Also, by "meeting the 7 eleven guys", do you mean the original team? where did this happen?

That'd be cool to check out.

I just pulled it out - smaller than I remember. On the back is a legend to tell who's who and some stuff about the team and racing in Europe.
These two were my favorites though:

Look how MURRAY is upside down on the seat tube - it should read from bottom to top, or else have the letters all stacked.

Hard to photograph since they're glossy, way too big for my scanner. I've got about 20 good ones I'd like to digitize... any suggestions?

Edit - after checking out LemondFan's link I realized I have the equivalent poster from the following year. Note Hampsten's Maglia Rossa on the wall, and new Eddy Merckxes

Loved the 7-Eleven team back then, even had a team jersey and a place of honor on my "cycling wall" in my bedroom for 7-Eleven pictures from "Winning" that being said what is so "bad ass" about a basic team photo? Cool, yes, Bad ass, nope. Now the Descente and Phinney posters above are bad ass.

Awesome!!!! Thanks for posting. I mentioned it here, before, there was a guy selling a replica Phinney 7 eleven "Merckx" bike(there should be a link here somewhere), he had this bad ass room full of 7 /11 stuff. Wish i could find some of that stuff, I was a big fan of that team in the 80s.

Your opinion.

Yep. I had a 7 eleven jersey too, I would ride around pretending i was Davis Phinney(and Lemond when I'd wear my La Vie Claire jersey). I wish more 7 eleven stuff was out there, seems it's pretty much non existant, minus some who might have collected some?

Since he was answering my post, I'm thinking he meant the new book.

Great read as I explained in my post above!

Sorry... the Huffy was quotes because the frames were Huffy in name only. Some were Serotta some were LandShark...

I was at Interbike this year and got into a party where they were giving away the new book on the team. The guys were there and signed everyone's copy who stood in line.

Andy Hampsten's was a Landshark, but not sure if there were others. Serotta was the official builder, and built most of the 7-Eleven team frames. When the switch was made to "Huffy" as the official bike sponsor (from "Murray"), Ben Serotta was talked into using very light True Temper tubing. There were a number of breakages early in the season in '86 as a result. The problem was sorted out by the Tour de France, but a number of riders had already gone elsewhere for new "Huffy" frames, starting the trend. Bob Roll had a De Rosa decaled as a Huffy at one point. In video from the Coors Classic from those years, you can clearly see some variety in the team's bikes during that period - including at least one prominent team member on an un-redecaled blue Colnago.
