Bicycle Mechanics - 27 X1 tire on a 27 1 1/4 Rim?

Most of the old road bike I get have 27 X 1 1/4" rims. Can I put a 27X1" tire on these rims? What are the risks involved in doing so?

Depends. All 27 inch rims aren't the same width. If you try to put a narrow tire onto a wide rim, you'll get lots of pinch flats and maybe even a blow off. If your bike is real old, you might even have straight sided rather than hook bead rims. If that's the case, the recommended pressure that's indicated on the tire sidewall doesn't apply to you. Be happy with 75 to 80psi
