I would like to get an idea of what some of the prices on C&V bikes are around the country and what kind of winter deals other markets have to offer. Here is a sampling of some of the better more intering deals in Denver.

In Southern California there are very few deals, but hundreds of hopeful sellers. I also notice a number of sellers of "fixie" (seller's term) parts and parts of bikes, parting out a fixed gear bike as it previously did not sell or they are attempting to reduce their exposure upon upgrading.

In the Downtown LA and Mid City areas there are still a number of fixed gear riders around, in small groups or alone, brakes? "I can make the back tire skid man..."

I wonder what the next big thing will be for these guys? C&V? The return of BMX? Phantom-esque Cruisers? Rat Rods? Pee Wee Herman? Ordinaries? Now there is a way for Darwin to be a victor.

Giant Racing bike, sketchy information, $25

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/bik/2773218928.html

Cinelli Super Corsa, $300. I don't know if it is real or not, but it comes with some nice parts!

Litespeed Racing Bike: $550

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wat/bik/2765198316.html

And my favorite sketchy ad ($200 Tandem), no brand, no model name, no picture, but its purple!:

"Hi! I have a two-seater "Tandem" bike for sale. It is a grayish purple and from around 1995."

OK, that cinches it. Its grayish purple, it must be a deal!

Cycling in Raleigh, NC falls off in the winter, but never really stops. Temps here are in the low 50's around noon, so a lot of cycling is still going on.
As for deals, some guy is trying to push an older Schwinn Traveler (with Ashtabula cranks) for $200. On the brighter side, a Centurion Ironman in need of a little TLC went for $185.

I have noticed the same thing here in Denver a lot of none selling second rate fixed and single speed conversions, along with a lot of little used fixed gear single speed parts and wheelsets up for sale.

Dang I wish I could find that bike in my market I could flip it in a couple of days with little more than better pics and presentation.

TERRIBLE deal on a pair of old Schwinn Travelers. $500 for the pair: http://madison.craigslist.org/bik/2773181353.html

Very tall 80s Fuji for $70. One of the most incomprehensible ads I've read lately: http://madison.craigslist.org/bik/2773120702.html

1980 Trek 400. Price in this ad is $150 but I think I've seen it as low as $125 in a different ad: http://madison.craigslist.org/bik/2752935062.html

Nice looking '89 Panasonic DX-3000 for $150. A solid buy I think: http://madison.craigslist.org/bik/2763110068.html

I've been unable to sell my 1989 Trek 1500 for $300 and haven't even gotten a single response on this trashed 1991 Fuji MTB for $30! http://appleton.craigslist.org/bik/2766087189.html

Craigslist has completely dried up where I'm at, flippers reposting the same bikes. Man, I had great run in October and November:

Nishiki Comp
Miyata 912
Univega Super Strada
Bridgestone T700

Richmond is in a weird place-- it's a town that never had much of a bike culture, and then suddenly has a pretty big one. In the past, this meant deals would slip way under any radar. In the present, this means there are few deals to be had. Somehow, I still find them, but almost never on CL.

I have seen a lot of nicer old Road bikes with high end frames and full Campy pop on CL list in Denver for under $500 but most are gone after only a few hours.

Mountain beaters are a tuff sell here in Denver also I sold one about a month ago and only got $25 and it had basically new cross tires which cost twice that new.

I haven't found anything for a month now in SoCal/Orange County that was either flip material or something I want to ride. I ran across a couple of possibilities. One was a Miyata 712, 1987 for $250. It was on CL for 2 weeks before I looked at it. The seller said he would wait until warmer months to get full price. I would have bought it as a keeper if it was my size since it was very clean.
Perhaps the smart sellers are waiting for warmer weather.

I have seen this Cinelli listed for months now on CL and somewhere else but I don't recall where, perhaps Velospace. Regardless, I have no idea why it hasn't sold which tells me that something fishy is going on. I know that the paint has been almost completely stripped too, which is odd. Perhaps it is a Windsor that the seller is trying to pass off as a Cinelli, I dunno. Seemingly it is a great deal but, in all these months, the seller could have easily parted it out on eBay (as he mentions in the ad) and made some great money on the parts alone-----why hasn't he?

A lot of times I have found that on nicer bikes that don't sell on CL's it is the seller that is the problem not the bike. I had one a couple of months ago where it took me almost two weeks to set up a time to meet the guy went out of my way to go to his place at a odd time and when I got there no one would answer the door or let me in the building. Since it was a great deal I set up a second appointment same thing I bet the guy still hasn't sold the bike.

Hey Zukahn1... I was looking at some of the same bikes you posted from Denver cragislist... because I haven't seem any good deals in Fort Collins. If I was heading to denver I would try and buy the trek, motobecane, Austro hoping to get each for about $25 less than what they are listed. I also saw a nice univega for $80 in denver. I'm a flipper so a good deal for me is different than a good deal for a rider... I think winter is a great time to buy a buy to ride. For flipping bikes I buy in the winter and sell in the spring, summer, and fall. I don't bother trying to sell anything in the winter. Supply and Demand.

Caveat emptor; check, check and re-check everything when you look at it in person.

Not much in the way of screaming deals; that said, I did pick up one flip candidate last week with potential, a Suntour freewheel and a pair of tricolor 600 pedals.

Have not seen any good deals in my area, Southern CT. Last couple of years there were more really great deals around this time and January. Perhaps it was last year's snow that caused prices to drop. No snow here since Halloween , so perhaps that explains stabilized prices.

I have been scouting CL for something suitable for an old friend of mine to ride, but without any luck. Same ads keep reposting. I myself haven't seen anything interesting for awhile, and it's been longer since I've seen something interesting at a decent price. I have seen some nice deals on new bikes from places like Nashbar, Bikes Direct and Department of Goods. What has been catching my eye is 105-equipped bikes for under $600, including touring and cyclocross bikes. I did, however, see an uber nice Schwinn Peloton (in Stamford, CT) in my size for $225 about a month or two ago . My interest is in touring bikes, however, so I let it pass...I am still waking up screaming in a cold sweat in the middle of the night over not trying to get it. ;)
