muscle? muscle weighs more than fat per the same amount of volume. that, or depending on how old you are, you might have grown some.

its probably muscles, though I've noticed that since starting to ride, when I start to eat too much ( and put on a few pounds), the fat goes to my legs instead of my gut. its kinda wierd. I'm a guy, just FYI.
also, if you've picked up your milage, you're probably hungrier, and therefore eating more. however, its really easy to overshoot. for instance, I find it a lot easier to lose weight when training for running (an activity that burns less calories) just becuase it makes me less hungry.
Try counting the acutal calories that you burn and the amount of calories that you eat. I think that you might be surprised.

Your not going to gain muscel from cycling. did you take a break from riding? i took 3 weeks off to fully recover and gained 4lbs in 2 weeks. this was not fat though.

I did that when I first started riding, and I'm doing it again since I upped the hours I ride per week.
I sometimes find that when I have a day with a few extra miles at a harder than usual pace, I give myself permission to eat a few extra tiny tons of food.

I would have to say that its definitly possible to gain muscle from riding. In my case, I came from a running backround, and so my aerobic system was a lot more fit then my muscular system, so I'd be sore from a ride where my spin probably never dropped below 100, just becuase I would never be out of breath, but my legs were screaming at me. as time went by, my muscles caught up with my lungs, and so the muscle mass has stopped coming on, but still, there is inital muscle gain.
