I was wondering whether anyone could shed some light on this bike I bought on eBay. The seller claims it maybe Montello slx (based on chrome and rear brake cable) but the tubing decal shows Columbus SL. I have researched the catalogues from 1982 and 1985 and cannot find a model with 'prestige' on the top tube. The prestide S model from that era does not have chrome chain and seat stays like the one I bought.
I suspect this frame may have replacement decals. There are several descrepancies. First, Pinarello did not use a single, forward facing seat tube decal on frames with dual bottle bosses. That would partially obscure their logo. All the dual bottle frames used two decals, placed on the sides. Second, the frame has conflicting Columbus tubing decals. The fork decal is the red border version, used for SLX/SPX and TSX. Finally, to the best of my knowledge, the Prestige did not use the bridgeless bottom, that this frame appears to have.
The best candidate does appear to be a very late 1980s Montello. The single seat tube decal forces an abnormally high placement, thus making the tubing decal go at the bottom of the tube, which is not it's typical placement. So, the SL decal is almost certainly a replacement. The bridgeless chainstays, dual bottle bosses and internal brake cable routing are all consistent with a Montrello. So is the fork decal which, by the way, is 1988 or newer. The components are also period correct for the very late 1980s. The feature I haven't seen on a Montello are the chomed head lugs, though that could a year or distributor specific feature. Of course, the only way to tell for sure is to remove the bottom bracket and check for the ridges inside the chainstays, seat tube and down tube.

I've been looking at catalogues from the website below. Not sure if it's relevant to australia (probably not), and I bought the entire package. Do you think I paid too much?

I haven't picked the bike up yet and will know more once it's in my possession. I'm hoping that it is a Montello. I think t-mar is right as it has more Montello like features than not. I'm very new to this and hope that my first purchase is a good one
Those are USA catalogs and there were often minor differnces to features and cosmetics, depending on the intended market, hence my previous comment on the head lugs.
I don't have any appreciation of market conditions in Australia, so my comments on pricing would be worthless.
