I recently bought a Raleigh Pro frame + fork with a campagnolo headset. When I removed the headset locknut and then attempted to remove the fork it withdrew a few inches and then abruptly stuck. Perplexed, I tried removing it a couple more times with the same results. Finally in frustration I pulled a little harder and managed to free the fork. I found that the steerer tube is "swolen" a few centimeters below the threaded portion. I assume that the damage is due to stem overtightening. I didn't see any cracks but there are some scratches from contact with the bottom headset cup. Is this fork safe to ride or should I replace it?
Sorry, I don't have any pics at the moment since it was recently built up to get a feel for the frame. I can get pics if necessary. Thanks.
