Classic & Vintage - End of the year - or - it's time for the insufferable mileage junkies to come out!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Another year gone, another year's roadwork records in the can. Yes, I'm a spreadsheet and mileage junkie (and a bookkeeper in mundane life, surprise, surprise). So, for those of you keeping records, how'd the year go?
Personally:
5952.15 miles total. A new personal best, beating last year by 75 miles. Which surprised me, considering I was 500 miles down back at Memorial Day weekend. Nothing like getting motivated. Said mileage was divided between 17 bikes (two of which were sold during the year).
Of that: 1341.00 mile split between my three modern (brifter/trigger shifter/cassette) bikes; 1246.88 on my vintage single speed or 3-speed bikes, and 3364.27 on the vintage derailleur rides (further split 637.90 indexed, 2726.37 friction).
And yes, I have fun playing with numbers.

Not sure how many miles, as most of my bikes don't have a computer. I figure about 8,000: 5,000 miles on the fixie for commutes and errands, 1,200 on six double centuries, at least another 1,200 for training and other long rides, probably 500 or so on shorter rides on rarely ridden vintage bikes.

I don't use a computer, so all I know is that I rode 2050 miles in organized randonnées
I started the year keeping track of just the longer rides, and now I keep track of the rides that aren't the rides to the store or the restaurant. 580 miles (weak) with about 200 of them in the last two months. Hot weather really hurts here.

A very big year for me, my wife, and my group.
This is a fairly close estimate, as I only put a Strada on my De Rosa, which I rode today.
I have 1,925 in dedicated trips. 750 of the 1,925 in two trips!
The rest came from commuting, group rides, solo junkets, training rides with my wife's group, adventure rides in the BWCA etc.
This totals just over 2,650 from my iPhone.
4,575 and I just put in 42 today on a lunch ride to Minnetonka.
A very big year indeed for an old guy!
...and I don't recall ever riding a road bicycle so late into a Minnesota winter.
We are expecting snow tonight, but none yet.

This was a big year for me as well -- did a lot more commuting and just-for-fun rides than in previous years, which were centered around Ragbrai. Ended up with almost 2450 total miles!
You number-junkies need not wait until the end of the year to indulge yourselves -- the Commuting forum has a nice thread where we keep track of commuting and total miles throughout the year. :)
Not so many miles this year, not sure on the exact number, hopefully somewhere north of 2000. Hoping for more in 2012.

Its hard to guage when no computer is present as what feels like a lot of miles can actually be less and then the habitual rides that seem less important add up.
Last year was better than this year but I tend to go by "school years" as i'm a teacher.
About 4200 this year. I'm going to reset all my computer mileage totals today just to get a real picture of 2012, have to add up all my various bikes in order to do that previously.

This year I tried to keep track of everything in a ride journal.
Over 3100 miles total:
2362 on my new to me De Rosa nuovo classico purchased in March.
486 commuting on Surly crosscheck/ Kelly knobbyx (90% on Surly)
200 at in-laws in Florida on Bianchi Brava
100 additional split between Kelly knobbyx and Cinelli Supercorsa
I think I rode about 500 more than last year. I didn't keep track of commuting in 2010 when I lived in Indiana (it was probably around the same). I rode 2005 miles on my Cinelli last year. I basically ignored it and rode the De Rosa this year.
The goals next year are to complete a couple of brevets and maybe a century a month (or just 12 whenever if the weather does not cooperate).
My records suggest 4624 miles, about 2/3 of which is commuting. A few miles here and there will have gone unrecorded.
Don't know exactly, but about 6K total.
1,000-1,500 on vintage.
2,500-3,000 on the commuter.
2,500-3,000 on modern.

I did my first Century ride last summer.....with a 15-20mph headwind for the first 40mi. Not the day I'd chose to do for any ride but since it was THE day, fuggetiboudit and ride, baby.
Ended up with about 2000mi for the summer on my Trek 460.

Somewhere north of 5000 miles--I need to check the computer to be sure. Also a personal best. I hope to double it next year, with nearly full time retirement approaching fast. And I ended the year with only 11 centuries, but with another one the docket tomorrow.

Just over 2100 miles for the year and completed by first century, all on my commuter friendly Raleigh M60 mountain bike with 26x2.0 slicks.

I don't know. Or care overly much. I know I average about 100 miles a week, much of it in town urban riding. I dont own a single bike computer, and when there's one on a bike I buy, it often gets thrown out.

Not as many for me this year as usual; I had a rather rough year. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer (Hurthle cell type) in late April of this year, had two surgeries, which ended up meaning my whole thyroid gland was removed when it was all done. I went over a month with no thyroid hormone so that my body would be ready for radioactive iodine treatment (June), then went on a special low-iodine diet before and during radioactive iodine treatment (very, very restrictive, difficult diet). In June, I had radioactive iodine treatment which required about a week of radioactive islolation.
Currently, I'm doing great, and have never really felt absolutely horrible through any of it. Okay, there were brief periods of absolute horribleness, but when thinking about it, I feel very, very fortunate. I had a few periods where I couldn't ride, but I stayed very motivated by the desire to get back on the bike. I never went more than a couple of weeks off the bike at any one time, I don't think. I rode during radioactive isolation (solo of course), getting in some nice, long road rides on country roads. All in all, I currently feel absolutely great on the bike (although I have a cold right at this moment). I have to think my thryoid hormome levels might be the best they've been in who knows how long since I'm on a steady dose of the hormone by taking a daily thyroid hormone pill.
I go in for testing in late January, and hopefully will get good results. If so, I won't have to go in for a year. The doctors are cautiously optimistic about my prognosis, and I am, too. One thing this whole experience has taught me more than anything I've ever experienced is that we really don't know what the future holds; you gotta live in the present, do the best you can, and appreciate everyone and everything that's precious to you. I had never even had a surgery before, and having just turned 49, consider myself very fortunate for that. I have young kids (7, 13, and 17) and have a lot of parenting yet to do.
So anyway, this is the first mention I've made of this on Bikeforums, I guess this is as good a time as any.
In regard to mileage for the year, I'm sure I put in over 4000 miles, but probably less than 5000, if I were going to guess. I'm hoping for a better year in 2012........
Happy New Year everyone!!!

6k+.
3977 in 297hr 48 min, 13.35 MPH Avg speed
Most of that was commuting, some puttering around at street festivals, lakefront, with the tween etc. Not as much as last year. We had a cold wet spring that keep things down, but the mild Dec helped out.
I did do this too.

Best of luck to ya on that, 'wellbiked'. I've had a lot of health issues this year as well, trying to get this diabetes under control and damn blood pressure too. Right out the gate last January I got walking pnumonia and then my mileage dropped straight off last April from all the dramatics going on with my kids. Still managed to snag a little less than 2000 miles though, eventhough I'm getting older (55) and slower. These days I'm more of a bike mechanic than a rider anyway, what with keeping my friends bikes going not to mention my own projects.
Hopefully 2012 will get me back to where I was before last April, when I was doing my almost daily 15-20 mile afternoon rides with 50-60 on the weekends.
Happy New Year guys. (my first post for 2012) :D

Since I ride pretty much year around as my primary means of transport and I often ride bikes I'm flipping or just fixing up to hold onto I figure if I want to keep or find a home for. I figure I road about 4000 split between a dozen bikes.
4.200 km divided on three bikes. Utility biking not included.

Here's to your good health!
I've found that having a great family by your side can get you through just about anything.
Sounds like that base is covered, as well as a good medical team.
The bicycle will help cover the wellness base and I'm sure all of us wish you the very best.
Happy New year!

4,763 Didn't break 5k because I went camping for the last week and a half and spent all the warm temps backpacking instead. Next year 7k.
My goals in 2011: A century in every month and 12,000 aggregate miles. The reality: I made the century goal, in spades, with 16 total, my best century months coming last spring. But I fell short of the total mileage. Not to offer excuses, but November and December kicked my a** with commitments to work and family and holidays. Total mileage was still a personal best for me, falling just short of 11,000 miles. (OK, 300 miles short of 11,000!) On average, I spent seven of every eight days riding and feel pretty good about how it all worked out. Oh, and all of these miles were ridden on vintage lugged steel road bikes.

gearbasher and azorch...just awesome!
I'd like to keep better track of my mileage in the future, but I'd guess I put in 3000 or 4000 miles this year, not all that many considering that I don't own a car and bicycling is my main mode of transport. Knee and neck troubles have held me back, unfortunately, but I hope to manage them better in 2012! Thanks for the inspiration, fellas.

I had a few periods of riding much less than normal, getting some projects done around the house, etc. Ended up just a little over 3000 miles. I have no bike computers, so I just kind of estimate and/or use Google maps after the ride (which helps me better learn the streets of the city as well).
Late in the year I started a spreadsheet to capture my miles. I'll try using it for the coming year and see how that works.
