Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Wondering how much this shogun is worth?

Hello everyone! I have a Japanese Shogun bike that I know nothing about. It was given to me awhile ago and I have never used it since it's too small.

Shogun Tange 900 CR-MO double butted tubes, Chromoly 200 double butted. In good condition but has a little rust in some places. It also has a flat front tire.

Does anyone know if I could get any money out of this bike? It looks like it could be a good grocery getter! Thanks for any help!

Pictures don't give enough detail for an accurate assessment but I'd guess $50 max as a project, up to $100 if properly cleaned, tuned, and lubed with new tires.

Note the rusty shifter cable. With fresh cables this bike could be ready to go, but there aren't enough good pictures to tell. The photo of the complete bike is too small to tell anything from and is taken from the left side. Take a good picture from the right side.

As-is I'd say about $100 considering the nice butted chromoly frame. $150+ if it's tuned up with new cables and everything in proper working order.

As a buyer, I love to see flat tire(s). Instant discount. I bought a bike yesterday with a flat tire, $125 discount (some of that will go back into new tires).

Your tires look old, cables are rusty. Overall condition is quite good, so it would rehab very nicely.

+1 This Shogun is better than the vast majority of mixtes out there. Most mixtes are entry level, yours is a step or two up.

As is, in my market, $50, $75 max. Fully refurbished, ready to ride, new cables, housings, bearings, grease, tires, shined up, and well marketed, $175 to $200. Note, it would take a while to sell this time of year.

Personally, I think this one has lots of potential. While I'd like to see better pics and get the serial number, it appears to be a mid-1980s Shogun 200 and may possibly be a 400. The big thing is that it has a double butted CrMo seat and down tube and possibly Tangaloy forks. It also has what appears to be aluminum rims. Mixtes are a hot commodity and this one could be up to 5 lbs lighter than your typical, hi-tensile steel mixte. Besides the flat tire and some minor work, the critical, missing piece of the puzzle is the OP's locale, to determine market conditions.

I think the previous prices seem about right for this bike. One of the best features of the Shogun mixte's is that they are exceptionaly light for a lower end mixte as mentioned they are a full 5-7lbs lighter than most mixte's which can be a big plus when it comes to marketing and selling the bike.
