Classic & Vintage - Bianchi Grizzly?

I am looking at picking up a hard tail MTB and I am leaning towards a Bridgestone, but this "Grizzly" caught my eye. http://boulder.craigslist.org/bik/2762859349.html The problem is that it doesn't say Grizzly anywhere. The community bike shop says that the PO stated it was and that is why they are selling it as such. They are unable to say if it has any tubing stickers or anything else that might give a clue.

Under normal circumstances, I would just go look, but this place is 175 miles away.

I have tried looking for Bianchi catalogs or pictures of this bike to confirm, but have come up empty.

Can anyone confirm if this is an actual Grizzly? My next conundrum is determining if I want to spend this much on an old hard tail MTB.

that is a hard one to tell. I think it is a '93ish bike but I can't tell if it has luggs. if there are no luggs it would possibly be newer than '96ish I think.

the ad says something about a suspension fork, but the pic is a rigid fork.

Bikepedia does not have pics for those years but does state the '94,94,96 and '97 as TIG. check the specs then ask about a spefic part like the crank or seatpost and see if they match.

If you click on the pics, it takes you to larger pics hosted on their site. Looking real close, it looks like it has Superlugs, though I am not sure if that helps any.

I caught that about the suspension too.

Its lugged with a threadless fork so maybe '94-ish or so. Grizzlies were very nice bikes but keep in mind that anyone who bought a Grizzly did so with the intention of beating it to death. The crank and FD do NOT look XT or XTR.

$300 seems steep in its current spec. Can the shiop verify its hubs and crankset? Hubs will be coded FH7XX for XT or FH9XX for XTR (FH = freehub), the brakes calipers would be BR7XX and 9XX respectively.

AH you can make the pics bigger..... now I can see (perhaps I need my readers at the computer?) not just luggs, which are tigged to the HT, but superluggs which is what threw off the luggs earlier.

according to BikePedia the main color for Grizzly in the mid '90s was Ferrari Red this looks more burgandy, the cranks are also listes a White Industry these look more like Alivio

Yeah, it would have to be completely original for that price and seems it is not.

Oh well, old Bridgestones seem reasonably easy to find here abouts...

Nice, but not worth that much. Also, they should know better than to dunk the shifter pod in the snow.

For middle of the road bikes, sure. Not top end MTBs. I would buy a truckload of MB-1s and Grizzlys at $50 a pop.
