Professional Cycling For the Fans - Streaming Pro Cycling?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I cancelled my Comcast cable in the fall, which means I no longer get versus. I use a boxee box now, and can access quite a bit of web content from my tv. I used to essentially only watch versus cycling coverage, and am wondering if anyone streams or otherwise accesses comparable coverage on the web? Also, is there a way to access tour de France coverage on the web/without cable?

My cable provider just dropped Universal Sports channel from it's line-up and they covered all the major tours and some smaller ones last season. I also understand there has been a big shake-up at NBC sports, which owns the station, and they now have Versus in their stable. So, does that mean Versus will pick-up the cycling that Universal used to? The new Versus/NBC commercial does show some cycling, so does anyone know what's going on yet?
I'm so confused...

Is Universal Sports still alive? I used to get it over-the-air on a side channel of my local NBC station. They turned it off the other day and now that station is blank.

Apparently they are. I just went to there web-site and it is still up, advertising and asking us to call our cable providers to get them back on the air.

I hope this new NBC sports network (Versus) gets better.
Right now it's Extreme Bird Watching, then Bass Fishing, followed up by Heads-Up Polker and then a half hour of the Dakar Rally. Woohooo! That's quite a line-up...

Good question. I used to pick up Universal on an over the air antenna, the station is now not available as of January 1st. I too am wondering what will happen with all the good races which were televised on Universal....Milan San Remo, Giro d italia, Vuelta, Giro d Lombardia, none of these are listed on the NBC/Versus 2012 race lineup.

Yeah, that is because they have not bid on anything except Hockey, they will get bike racing and some other cool sports UNTIL they bid on NCAA college ball, and other ad nauseum college sports allready on 20 other chanels....and then , there is always Poker! " Tour de France" nah, will show a foul mouthed moron and some rocket scientist squaring of on the poker table......VERY interesting. Where is Wild World of sports...

Looks like a fairly strong lineup of cycling events are now scheduled on NBC(old versus channel).

If I had to choose, I would probably prefer the 2012 NBC events over last years universal programming though I do like the cyclocross season from universal. Getting the spring classics on NBC is probably more interesting to me than the vuelta and giro. Since NBC now owns both channels, seems like it would be pretty dumb of them to split the cycling content among both channels. Univerasl sports website does not actually even show any cycling content scheduled for 2012, hopefully it all goes to NBC?

Universal Sports used to be available free over-the-air. NBC Sports is only available via cable or satelite. Cycling fans with over-the-air TV are SOL. Thank you NBC.

Thanks for that link.
It does look like a very strong cycling calender! I'm kind of surprised that they won't televise the Giro and Veulta, but beside's that, I couldn't ask for anything more. Maybe eventually, if Universal comes back on the air, they will televise both tours.
Now my cable provider just has to give me back Versus/NBC in HD. For some reason, they don't offer them in HD any longer. Strange...

I hate cable. Seems satellite systems have broader coverage and do less of this market manipulation..Thanks for the cyclingfans link..

I find a lot of places that stream live cycling, but not many places that will have full versions of the race afterwards. Steephill/cycling fans sometimes has some clips or a synopsis of the days, but does anyone know where to find full recordings of races? I can't watch a European race at 1PM at work. :(
