any ideas for removing this? the cup has three notches and i've already tried a spanner wrench with a long *ss pipe for leverage but no such luck. sheldon's vice idea? i'm thinking about that, after applying liquid wrench or similar type oil. or maybe i should just take it in and have the lbs take care of it...

it's italian threaded by the way

Cold chisel and big Fing hammer. Make sure you are going the right way.

bike shops have all sorts of specialized tools.... including apparatus for removing pesky stuck bottom bracket cups.

i know that you wanna get it out on your own, as i would also, but you might end up damaging something in the process...

mmm-hmmm. Threads are delicate. Hammers and chisels are not. Brute force can work, but in my experience has an unusually high incidence of disaster.

Build yourself one of Sheldon's patented low budget fixed cup tools. Works like a charm.

The huge bolt through the cup? We did that on a landfill-salvage fixie conversion and it worked perfectly. We tried a number of bolts - all too thin and weedy - until we tried a big, heavy-ass bolt from a car's towball mounting. That and a couple of big, thick washers mated nicely and with two guys giving it some ugliness (and a metre-long cheater bar), it came away cleanly.
