Classic & Vintage - Schwinn World Sport NTM...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi All,
A very kind friend of the family just gifted me a 25" frame World Sport. I was surprised at the light weight. The year is about 1983, since the Sugino crankset has a "783" in a little circle, back side.
The S/N is GM837xxx, so I assume it's a 1983. It has Suntour RD model α 3040 , no model on the FD, Suntour selectable friction/index shifters, HTI pedals, etc. The frame is moderately light: 2490 grams/ 5.08lbs
Is it a decent frame?

if you like it, it's fine.
you don't want to hear that it is a low-end model from us.
Can't take the truth? I just want to know if I should flip it, or if it's a respectable keeper.
I have had a 88 WS and it rode decent. 4130 DB frame on mine.
Its a mid line bike.
The head badge will have a 4 digit number. Last digit is the year and the first three are the day. Anything around October is mostly likely the next year model.
Most of the 80's WS were built by either Giant or Panasonic. 83 is probably a Panasonic. If the serial number is on the head tube centered front probably Panasonic. Not a bad find and they have potential but its nothing particularly special.

Mine's 4130 double butted also. I can't find anything on the headtube. I'll look again when my fingers aren't so frozen as today. Working in the mid-30's is a pain!
Thanks for the useful feedback.

What would you keep a bike for? For its value? For its ride?
