Classic & Vintage - Need help identifying a Miyata?

Hi there,

I'm looking for a simple bicycle (mine was recently wrecked) and came across this on Craigslist for $120. I'm a bicycle novice and did some Google searches to familiarize myself with the Miyata brand. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to identify this model. I checked out http://www.miyatacatalogs.com/ but haven't had much luck. I couldn't find head tube lugs such as these in any Miyata catalog.

The ad has it listed as a 59cm frame, 10 speed. I'd appreciate any advice :)

It's a low-end bike, but would make a good rider as most Miyatas can be.
Seems like in a "bike town" like Boston, that would be more like a $75-$100 bike
It does look like it is ready to go.

I think it's a very early example, maybe early '70s, looks like early Shimano stuff but what brand crank is that?...turn the seatpost around, and enjoy. ;)

I'm almost positive it is a circa 1973-1974 Miyata Professional Competition P-2, as those appear to be Shimano Crane/Titlist derailleurs and an SR Custom 3 crankset. Rims appear to be aluminum and the hubs are QR. Behind those entry level spoke protectors and safety levers should lay a CrMO butted frameset. Grab it! I would! If you get it, the serial number tell us the exact year.

The frame/forks looks almost identical to my '73 Sekine. Does it say what kind of tubes?

I like it! I'd change the saddle, bar tape, and pedals. Then I'd ride it. :)
