No - I take that back. I do know how I feel about it: I feel very vague.

You people and your big blocks... Hasn't anyone ever wanted to put the Challenger T/A motor (Destroked 340 down to 305 pushing over 400 hp) in a Dart? Am I the only one????

One of my friends did something like that years ago, except he built the motor himself.

Oh, yeah, the K-car revival is right around the corner, except that they will use the Alfa Romeo Milano body.

It's time to let go of V8s my friend. Twin turbo v6 will get you all the power you need in a lighter package.

And the small block 340 is a far better option than a big block at times as well. I have no real attachment to any of them; for years my dream car was a Noble M400. That's some Turbo V6 goodness right there.

yes, you are the only one.

I've always wanted to take a porsche 911 turbo engine and drop it in an alfa romeo spyder (think the convertible in the graduate).
And since this "dart" is an alfa, I think this thread is as good as any to express this.

I'm not sure if they had that setup, but I believe you could get a Dart with a 340 six pack from the dealer.

Mine had "only" the 318 (5.2 L). It did have a stickshift on the floor though. That was pretty cool. The original owner was literally a Little Old Lady from Pasadena. :innocent:

I loved the 70's era darts and demons and swingers. I used to drive a 1976 Chevy Nova with a 305 V-8, two doors, bench seat (red cloth) Cragar mags, side exhaust...

This is not my car, but it looked very similar to this.

That's much nicer than my Nova. Mine was the 4 door 6 cylinder 3 speed. Passion beige top over a scorched earth brown body. Plastic bench seats that left waffle imprints on your back and legs. The high beam switch was properly located on the floor though.

Aw, my "first" car was a 69 Dodge Dart with a slant six. I say "first" because at the time I was 16, it was 1992, and I had no idea what to do with it. It rotted in my front yard, unused except for little jaunts around the block, and developed a massive leak in the transmission before I had it towed away.

My dad started with a 318 Coronet then a Baby Blue 318 Dart. When I was looking for my first car I found a Super Bee and had plans for buying it. He quickly shot that down.

I had a 63 nova 2-door. It came with a 6-cylinder, I pulled that out and put in a bored 283 (bored to 292) with Cragar cam, 12:1 pistons, FI heads, headers, Holley 850DP carb, 4-speed and 4.88 gears.

What does this new Dart have in common with the old one except 4 letters? Marketing hype.

I used to have a '70 Nova. Four doors, blue with a white top, but a 307-V8 with plenty of torque. I got it when I needed to drive between Palm Springs and San Diego frequently. Highway 74 out of Palm Desert rose 4500 feet in 10 miles in one long series of switchbacks. It was a wonderful drive.

Oh, I don't know, how about:

It's a smaller car in the Dodge line-up with multiple engine options ranging from a generic commuter car engine to a slightly higher output engine.
The original Dart was a smaller car in the Dodge line-up with multiple engine options ranging from a generic commuter car engine to a slightly higher output engine. (the 340 was the upper end of power plants in the older darts and those aren't terribly common. The majority of Darts sported a 318 V8 (150 net horsepower) or smaller. The 340 produced a whopping 240 net horsepower). The Slant Six produced around 145 Gross (vs. net) horsepower.

It borrows aesthetics from its larger brethren.
The original borrowed aesthetics from its larger brethren.

It has no less right to wear the name of a former car than any of the modern cars who do so (Impala, Mustang, Charger, Challenger, Jeep (in general), Cobra, C class, etc. )

I bought a 1969 Super Bee 4 speed in 1977 to teach my wife to drive stick shift. She could not kill the engine and she finally learned. It could do 70 mph in first gear. To bad your dad did not let you buy it.

So I saw the release pictures yesterday. I'm going to have to go with it's not half bad. I'd probably consider it instead of the Abarth just so I can avoid the 'J-Lo car' comments.

My Falcon wagon with the 170-6 banger could do 65 in first, though it wasn't a particularly fast car.
