I have an opportunity to buy this Trek 1200 for $60. Is it worth it? It needs the following:

1. Shifters
2. Brakes
3. Tires & Tubes

I have these items in my parts bin already, was just wondering if anybody has ever owned one and what you think. It seems that vintage Treks are coming my way lately for some reason. LOL

I haven't seen it yet, but he sent me pictures and the wheels are Mavic and look to be ok.

I would buy for $60... 1200 is pretty light and fast. I fixed one up last summer and sold it for $200. If you got the parts and can do the work your self... I say go for it... if its not gone already.

He's going to deliver it on saturday. I was hoping it would have Shimano 105 but he said it had either Sora or Tiagra.

Hope you get it. Post some good pictures if you do! I'd like to see what you got exactly for that price.

Yeah he promised to deliver it as he was passing through the area visiting relatives but you know how CL is! Anyway, if delivered as promised I will definitely post some pics.

Thats a good deal. The Trek 1400 came with Shimano 105, I thought the 1200 was RSX or something like that. Either way, it's a good bike and a great deal.

I picked the bike up tonight, so as promised here are some pics. He also threw in the original wheels that came with it.

I like that green. Post a drive side pic after you get it all spiffed up.

I was thinking of maybe (warning blashphemy ahead) going over to the dark side and making this into a single speed with bull horns. Don't worry I am too old to be a hipster. LOL!

It's not a rare/valuable bike and it's not complete so do what you want with it. I've converted many old/incomplete road bikes to single speed/fixed gear.

Just don't make the unforgivable mistakes of spray bombing it and cutting off the cable guides, RD hanger, etc.

I don't plan on doing anything radical to it, I am just interested in doing something different. I think a SS would be an interesting addition to the stable, and something fun to ride on occasion.
