id recommend powder coating it, it'll last forever... unless its aluminium...
EDIT: i might add, the guy who wrote this instructable makes it look WAAAAY easier than it is.... your results wont look that good unless you've done it a damn few times...

if its nothing fancy, just hit it with some spray paint... if you mess it up, you can get a fork powder coated professionally for about 20 bucks
EDIT: good that its not aluminum... when you powder coat aluminum it can make bubbles in the paint

Whatevs. Gotta go with some NJS approved paint and spray gun with imported pre-tsunami compressesed Japanese air.
In all seriousness, 95% of any good paint job is prepwork. A clean environment and proper sanding/cleaning/degreasing supplies along with hours of reading up will make the end product much better.
