I've used the Shimano inline gear indicator on 3 bikes and love it. However, it's specific to the 9 speed drivetrain. Is there a comparable product available for either Shimano or Campy 10 speed?

Campa ErgoBrain is available as 10s as well as 9s.

Where did you get yours? it sound like something I might like to try but have not seen it in my LBS. Is it pretty easy to install? How does it work?

i had a test ride on a DA10 bike a couple of weeks ago with one of those gadgets. pretty cool and apparently available for DA10 -- unless it was a 9 speed unit that they used?

I had an ErgoBrain. I almost never paid attention to the gear display. It worked, but I opted for a different cyclocomputer with different functions. I just don't believe gear display is worth it. It takes up space I could have for HR, speed, and distance functions.

this isn't a computer -- it's a little mechanical pod that's inline with the cable itself. it reminds me of a bubble on a level. i thought it was useful.

They originally came on DA equipped 9 speed groups. Ask the service or parts people at your local LBS - they can usually be had for $5 or less. Handy little buggers that get installed inline with the rear der cable right out of the shifter. They do look like a level or bubble type indicator but it's just the cable wire with a "donut" that slides up and down with the cable shift.

My "04" Roubaix Pro w/ DA10 had one on the bike when I bought it new from Supergo.

I have one on my dura-ace 10-speed set-up. I don't really look @ it much (I have a flightdeck, so it's easier for me to glance down @ the display), but I'm assuming it's for a 10-speed. If I remember, I'll check tonight!

Why do you have it if you have a flightdeck? doesn´t the weiht really slow you down?

I didn't do the build (actually a swap), my LBS did the mechanicals, and when I picked up my machine, there it was!

BTW, I trim my toenails before I ride, so the extra weight is negligible.

I get it now. The ones I have (9 speed version) should work on the 10. For on the 9, the "donut" lands on the lines and on the 10, it lands between the lines. 9 lines = 10 spaces.

The Shimano FlightDeck works with a 10-speed cassette, and has a spiffy visual indicator, I love mine.

After looking @ the 9-speed indicator again, I think you are correct!

Good question. I've thought those things were cool since the first time I saw one. Haven't made the effort to investigate further. I would assume that the difference in Shimano/Campy shift distance would make give a slight error if it were used with Campagnolo gear. Probably not too much, given the distance from 1st to 10th gear is about an inch. I wonder if there is some other glass tube that can be substitued and remarked for Campagnolo, or if Shimano hash marks can be removed? As far as I know they have no equivalent part.

This is the 10-speed FlightDeck I'm using with Ultegra 10-speed. Nifty little gadget. Installation wasn't too hard and programming it was straightforward.

i've got DA 10, and my little inline thingy works just fine. well, except for my moronic self greasing the cables before i put it all together, leading the grease to back up on the little red donut and smear along the inside of the pod...

Just remember that if you want the 10sp FlightDeck, you'll need the SC-6502 and the harness assembly I believe is also different than for the 9sp version.

The nine speed indicator should work with ten speed. Both have the same derailliuer throw and cassette width. The ten speed cogs are narrower and closer together then the nine speed.
