Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - de bernardi/ phil bb

world class cycles is shipping me a de bernardi frame. i'm going to have them install a chris king grip nut headset, and a phil wood bb. i don't know anything about bb sizes and specifications... i don't even know if this frame will accept a phil bb. any suggestions on which size i'll need? i'll be using sugino 75 cranks (weather this is relevant, i'm not sure). if you'll kindly help me sort this out, i'd be much obliged. thankyou.

109mm spindle length for those cranks. i don't know anything about the frame, so i'm not sure what the shell width is on it. whoever's installing it should know.

I have a pretty new De Bernardi track frame and it has an English threaded BB shell, so no problem there with the Phil. I am using a 107mm spindle with Miche cranks and the chainstay clearance is good and tight. Phil makes a 108 and a 110, I think.

109mm is the spec'd length for the Sug75's.

The Phil (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/bottombrackets.html#phil) 68mm bottom bracket works fine in the 73mm shell. Lockrings are sold seperately so as to match the required threading on your frame.

And you'll need the Phil tool for installation. Still worth the hassle, they are absolutely beautiful.

I have a DeBerdardi. You require an Italian threaded BB.

The difference is that is threads in the opposite direction as most BBs and you may want to use some locktite(sp?) on it.

Phil lockrings (or cups as I believe they call em) already require the use of LockTite, so he should be set there.

They might have. The other thing mine doesn't have is the heart-shaped cutouts on the lugs. So either the DeBernardi factory retooled, or someone took the time to put a really chippy red paintjob on a generic steel frame and sell it to me as 'Italian.'

According to Phil's Tech Sheet (http://www.philwood.com/techmanual/crankbearinginstallationguide.jpg) you're suppose to use retaining compound, or Blue LocTite 242 when assembling.

hmmm...i have an english bb on my de bernardi and no heart shaped lugs. bought it april 2004. i wonder if they changed manufacturers????

My Debernardi has a solid German thread, with a touch of Bavarian.
(It is Italian. I picked up a ****mano from American Cyclery. Yay...whatever).
I run the 109mm with Suntour Superbes. No probs.

well, i ordered the debernardi from world class today. roger is installing the headset and bb. the bb threading, it turns out, (on this frame, anyway) is italian. i appreciate your help, fellows.
