Hybrid Bicycles - Threadless Stem Extender for Trek 8.5

Does anyone know what size of threadless stem extender would fit a 2012 Trek 8.5 DS, or have any recommendations for one? The stem on mine is marked as being 90 mm, but I can't find what diameter the handlebars are. Basically I just want to raise the handlebars 2-3 inches, but if I could find an extender that would angle them closer to the seat, that would be nice. My LBS just cannot seem to find me one. Thanks for any suggestions.

the 90mm marked on the stem is the length, not the rise, the stock stem has a rise of 10°, changing for an aftermarket on won't make too much difference, as this is the max most are now.

Have you looked at the handlebars? the stock ones on the Trek are flat / very low rise (hard to tell from Treks site photos), you can get different riser bars which will give you the 2-3 inch raise you want.

Are you sure you have got the right sized bike? as normally the manufactures have got the basics like handlebar height right?

Hi DH! They do make shorter stems that allow you to sit up higher and not reach over towards the front so much.

or you can get the comfort Handlebars like the ones from the Trek FX series bikes. They are angled towards the back of the bike and gives you a more upright position when riding.

Thankyou DH...im probably pushing my 8.4 passed what it is meant to do, but at least i can attest that it is a capable ride! Come to California and you can ride pretty much all year!!! =)
