View Full Version : I gave Lance the look today...

Well...I looked at Lance today...and I waved...and he waved back.

My ride partner and I drove to Dripping Springs this morning for a ride. We rode from there last week too and we kept joking that every rider we saw was Lance, as he has a ranch in the area.

On our return on Creek Road, we spotted a runner coming towards us, closely followed by a black Hummer with its flashers on. I said to my partner, "that's gotta be Lance" and sure enough it was. We exchanged waves and continued on. The Hummer appeared to be driven by his girlfriend and there were a couple kids in it also. Good stuff.

While we didn't want to interrupt his training, we had the perfect opportunity to do so as my ride partner is currently dating a German cyclist who trains at Mellow Johnny's and occasionally rides with him.

No pics...but it DID happen.

Oh...when I told this story to my wife and daughter, they both focused on the fact that his poor girlfriend and kids had to sit there in the car following him. Sheesh!

I don't know whether I should be jealous or sorry for him that he has a chase vehicle for a jog around the neighborhood... :twitchy:

It's sort of wierd seeing celebrity out doing regular things..although I would have to say with the Hummer behind did make it stand out a bit.

We were at a bowling alley down the road from our house. Evander Holyfield was bowling in the next lane over, and several friends of mine were all ga-ga about it. I honestly couldn't tell, and made the comment that he was too small to be Holyfield (the guy really didn't look that big). This TREE of a man, his bodyguard, walked up and confirmed that he was who they thought and asked me nicely not to make comments about him looking small. He had a fight coming up and apparently it bothered him.

At this point I would debate whether to be more intimated by Holyfield or his bodyguard....

Isn't having a chase car behind a runner disruptive to traffic? People get bent out of shape when there's just bicycles impeding traffic.

Lol, for a guy like me I would be intimidated to get thumped hard by either one of them. Lover, not a fighter.

thats cool! I know you didn't talk to him or anything, but I always get "star struck" when i see a celebrity. I work for Red bull and have gone down to laguna seca for the moto gp races the last 4 years. I get to sit in the red bull VIP where all the celebs are and I get excited like a little school girl. had tom and katie cruise shake my hand, talked with pamela anderson, mini me and a hand full of others. My cousins live in Huntington beach and see celebs all the time. I know they are just people too, but its exciting.

It happens all the time in NYC. The funniest ever was seeing Tiffani-Amber Thiessen pick up her dogs poop in Central Park. Richard Belzer has to wait in line at Fairway, just like the rest of us.

I'm an art dealer, and have definitely met my fair share of celebrities. I like taking their money; especially since they don't ask for discounts!

was it an h2 or a real hummer? my dad would have given them the jack off sign if it was an H2. He will literally stock people through a parking lot so he can give them the jack off sign.

So is the Hummer what fancy TX people drive instead of a Suburban or Pick-up?

I agree that it is a bit much to expect your girl friend and kids follow you as you are training.

What does he do if they're driving an H3?

What does he do if they're driving an H3?

He probably laughs at them. H3's are a POS, they gave me one while they were changing the oil on my Escalade one day. They are very hard to see out of and they have no power.

I live in Phoenix where no one gives each other the "jack-off" sign when you're in a vehicle as you may be armed.

The security guards at Circle K will mess with you if you're on a bike though...

No, but I couldn't help myself with the reference. I was given a warning by a mod for arguing with vicey once though. He's just a BF celebrity, not a public one...

+1. Phoney Hummers are without a doubt the crassest thing old GM ever produced. They deserved to go bankrupt just for that.

It made me wonder whether he's required to have someone with him when he's training...for insurance purposes?

There's little traffic in this area...most of the ride my partner and I rode side by side even when there was no shoulder.

you know Mr B, you had me there until I realized that you were talking of the movie star gang....
dont know if you follow bike racing, but I'd find it neat to see any of the Aliens. Neat, but not star struck, partly as even Edwards is probably the closest to my age, all the rest are so young--and anyway, talented as they are, they are just people too. Huge respect for them all, but not star struck.
Thats a tough track on a motogp bike, they are hardly ever in a straight line, and the startline "straight" certainly isnt taken straight and the apex is kinda unseen --must have been very neat to hear those beasties in real life.

Maybe you are mis-interpreting the escort as security for Lance. Could be Lance has some lady friends in the hood the current GF is keeping her eye on him.

This is crass. You act like the guy can't be trusted. So what if he left his wife and twins to date a rock star, left her in the middle of her breast cancer battle to date a 14 year old Olsen twin, did and hid performancing enhancing drugs and was called out by all his teammates through the years and now owns a Hummer and burns its gas as he waxes poetic about the value of being green and driving electric vehicles as a shill for Nissan.

Give the guy a break.

Is it possible for someone to post anything about Armstrong, even something as innocuous st the OP, without bringing out a lot of pointless vitriol?

I'd hope so.

Cease and desist the crap and talk about waving at celebrities while being awe-struck.

Not sure what Lance did so wrong? My guess it that he doped like a lot of other cyclist at the time. I think that he brought a lot of American interest to the sport.

You expect too much, Walter. I understand your point but it's like being in a baseball forum and somebody starting a thread stating "I saw Barry Bonds today running through Golden Gate Park with a huge security detail behind him" and not expecting posts replying what a tool he is.

So should we all just post "Cool!" "NO way!!!!" "Did you wave back!!!!!!?" "What was he wearing!!!!?" "Is he as tall in person?"

I know it's been on the market since 2009 and he dropped the price several million in June/July of 2011...but I hadn't read that it had sold.
