hi,
please,I could buy a Telavio road frame made in Rome by Pino Moroni, the owner ask me about 600$,what do you think?
is it expensive?
thanks.
A couple of things to consider. What are the odds of you finding anyother Pino Moroni frame? What is the C&V market like in Rome?

Ciao Sante I own a Pino track bike I live in Canada across the river from Detroit USA were Pino morroni lived. I posted pics on here at CV. I was not told what its worth but it is a very rare bicycle. My google search tells me its quite a piece of cycling history, my pino has his wheelset and a titanium bottom bracket made by pino. I think 600 is a very good deal and a great addition to anyones collection, you will not be disapointed. TMAR if you have time can you search CV and give me your appraisal it was posted in Classic and Vintage a few months ago during your hiatus. Thanks

Since its just a frame offer him 400 and go from there, buona fortuna.. If you google Pino Morroni and read the history of the Telavio he was a in demand framebuilder with very few bikes made.

I'm lucky,there are two frames.
vintage market in Rome is just starting, now it offers a lot of chances, but you have to look for other brands instead of colnago and de rosa, these are very expensive.

Am I crazy or does it look like it has had a sloppy repaint?

Congratulations, hai fatto bene, sarai soddisfatto, paint looks like crap (merda), but ill take function over style anyday. What are your plans for the build.

yes it's a "merdaccia"(big crap),and I'll repaint it yellow with original stickers from U.S.A.,and with s.record.
the frame is something I've never seen, the structural holes with inner reinforcements are incredible, like the bb press fit(more than 25 years ago...),it's not very well refined but it's a race machine!
may be I'll pick up another one.

A worthwhile purchase. The chrome appears it was done without proper preparation. A challenge, but not impossible to correct.
Pino had a theory that the transverse tubes added rigidity. Kind of like what Masi did on a few frames when Merckx rode for Faema, but not as aggressive.
Pino had some terrific ideas.

Masi Faema had the chainstays drilled and brazed with inner squared steel structures.
but the holes weren't round but squared, according to Pino idea, the holes were to be round,in an exact position and correctly dimensioned.
he welded inside titanium cylinders, yes,he was able to weld(and also to braze) together steel and titanium.

the lugs and bb shell are roto, like the seat post that I have.
it's a 58cmx57cm.
the paint is in not good conditions, like the other one t
his has to be repainted.
ps:excuse me for the double pics.

Interesting that the color schemes are as close as they are, same original owner?
Cecil Behringer was the guy who worked with Pino and somehow brazed ti. Pino showed me a track bike in 1974, with almost all of it special by him. I did not believe his comment that the tubes were bored out of ti rod, but the bike had many other really interesting things. Spokes threaded into the hub, nuts at the rims to double secure the spokes there, drive on the LH side, a stem that looked much like the Merckx hour record stem, quill bolt recessed way down inside, a really clunky magnesium seatpost and special seat frame with a raw plastic Unicanitor saddle, Pino bottom bracket, front axle fixing had what appeared to be bolts, no nuts, so the axle was internally theraded, silly light.

these frames were of a roman racer and of his father, but they are repainted,I think.
I've spoken with mr carbutti, the lazzaretti bikes shop owner in rome,he collaborated with pino in his atelier in torre spaccata.
he told me about pino's wheelset, made exactly like you say,and about a tandem that is somewhere in rome,I'm looking for it...

you have a rocket,I suppose...
I'm very curious to ride the 56x54,the other is too large for me.
I know that pino morroni preferred a short top tupe and a long stem(in this case I think 13cm lenght),a long seat tube with 73°,in order to discharge the rear wheel by the cyclist weight.
in so I'm very curious, and I think that I'll utilize modern and light components(may be sr 11 sp),with the origianl pino's seat post.
comparing these frames with other italian frames, these are very different in finishing, they are crude racing machine, like to compare a plenty luxury bentley to a formula 1 car...
